KOTOR III....maybe in 2008

I know some here really hate EU, but I have to admit I REALLY loved Kinghts of the Old Republic I. That game really stuck to the roots of Star Wars, for those who don't know anything about it check out this thread for the movie of it. Anyways, I was not too impressed with KOTOR II and so I have been waiting with anticipation for KOTOR III to see if the series will be redeemed. This is from IGN, it is just a prediction though and IGN has admitted to being wrong before.

Last year we over-zealously predicted that Knights of the Old Republic 3 was in development, probably by Obsidian, and would blow us away at year's end. We took our best shot and we were wrong. That was before (way before) LucasArts showed off its goods as E3, where those goods didn't include KOTOR in the slightest. That's why they're predictions. This year we predict the third Knights of the Old Republic will not appear -- at all -- in 2007. It will instead arrive in 2008. LucasArts will announce the briefest of details of the third game, probably at E3, and then proceed to talk about the other Star Wars game and Indiana Jones. Sad prediction, but that's how it's going down.

I liked KOTOR simply for the reason that it proved a Star Wars RPG could work.

It was also a breath of fresh air on the Xbox, which suffered greatly from a lack of really good RPG's. It's one of three good ones on the system.

I thought the gameplay of II was slightly better than I. The story was much better in I though. Then again, I liked the fact that in II you could convert your comrades into Jedi. Can't wait for III.

That is what I meant to say, but didn't. I liked the fact you could build things in II. But I've only played through II twice, whereas, I've went through I at least 10 times becuase the story line is so much better to me. I abosolutely hated the ending of II. *spoilers* either you blow up your comrades or you fly off with no explanation on where your going or what you are doing next.

There have been rumors that Bioware has taken up the task of developing KOTOR 3, which is great news for those that didn’t like KOTOR 2.

I personally loved both KOTOR games, between the four members of my family we have about 60 KOTOR saves and over 100 KOTOR 2 saves. There are more KPTOR 2 save just because you really had to play the game four time (LS Male, LS Female, DS Male, DS Female) to get the full impact of the game. I also really enjoyed the influence system in KOTOR 2.

I’ll be the first to admit that KOTOR was a more complete game than the sequel. That had more to do with Lucas than it did Obsidian. Lucas Arts wanted KOTOR 2 finished in time for the holidays and that pushed up the release by about 3 to 6 months. The result was a game that had an incomplete storyline and was full of bugs. I think KOTOR 2 could’ve been spectacular just based on what I’ve seen of the cut material. It was set to be very dark and very discouraging just like ESB was. Then the deadline was moved up and the fleshed out storylines and endings for most of the characters were replaced by Kreia’s predictions. There was a great deal cut including:

- An entire planet that was the base of operations for the assassin droids. The removal of this planet resulted in an incomplete HK-50 sub-plot as well as reduced stories for HK-47, T3 and GO-TO.
- Violent endings for most of the Exile’s companions based on influence. So if you were LS and had high influence with Brianna Visas would kill her out of jealousy.
- Areas in the Military Base on Telos and on Nar Shadda were removed.
- The list goes on, look up the KOTOR 2 restoration project for more details.

It’s unfortunate that economics figure so prominently into game development. The sad truth is that a more respected developer like Bioware would’ve had the clout to tell Lucas Arts to hold their horses, but Obsidian was not a mature developer when KOTOR 2 hit the streets. NO matter who develops KPTPR 3 I hope they are given ample time to finish the project. I’d rather wait a few extra months for a complete game than have a buggy game a little early.

Yeah, I see where the story line of KOTOR II had potential. I too also liked the ability to influence the other characters. It'd be cool if somebody at Obsidian put at a complete version of KOTOR II, but I'm also dreaming of winning the lottery. Hopefully, IF KOTOR III is realized, it will take some of the better ideas from KOTOR II and combine it with a great storyline like KOTOR I and make one hell of a game, if they do it well enough they could very well end the franchise on that note, only if it is great. I would seem to me they could this with the next-gen consoles easily. They could have more planets, more aliens, more options to go. I'd like to see the standard "Dark Side" "Light Side" paths but them toss in a "Grey Jedi" path which if you constantly make bad decisions followed by great ones, you will end up on an out of the way planet like Jolee somewhere alone. Or a "Corrupt" side which allows you to go the path of the crime lord and profiteer. Those are just ideas, but we'll see what they give us if anything.

I guess ruining Galaxies wasn't good enough for them. Now they're going to destroy KoToR too? I guess they need a consistent revenue stream and figure this is the way to go. Oh well, no KoToR 3 for me (I don't pay to play unless it's my broadband bill).

That really sucks. Stupid MMOs. If I wanted to interact with other people, I would go out and interact with people the old fasion way.

lord jedi, how did they ruin Galaxies? Wasn't that always intended to be a MMO?

You do you realize you're interacting with people on a massively multiplayer online message board, right? ^_~

Seriously, though, I've never played any of the KOTOR games (don't have an XBOX), but I feel the same way about MMORPGs.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Yep and it was a good one until the NGE when they made Jedi a class you could pick. Galaxies is suppose to take place during the Galactic Civil War, when any Jedi that might exist are few and far between. Originally, the Jedi class was something that was totally random and had to be happened upon (usually through playing a long time and building a skill tree big enough). Now, there's just clans of Jedi running around, slaughtering anyone they feel like because they can. I've heard stories of groups of them running through Tattooine and just destroying the Stormtrooper outposts because they can (they're Jedi, so they're pretty much unstoppable in a group).

Jedi are suppose to be hard to play (you need to hide from the Empire) and few and far between. The old RPG got it right, but Sony and LucasArts screwed the pooch when they made it a class you could pick at the start. That, and from one of those links I followed, it seems that a lot of players had their characters taken away when the NGE was implemented. It's no wonder so many people left it and went to WoW.

Do you have a PC with a decent graphics card? Both KOTOR 1 and 2 are available for PC as well.

Ah, now I understand what you mean. That stinks. The Star Wars universe has a lot of fasinating things beyond the Jedi, in fact I don't find the jedi that interesting, especially since 1999. I was pretty disappointed when they switched Dark Forces 2 to a Jedi game from the original mercenary for hire theme it had in the first game. I can imagine people feeling much the same way about this. Stupid jedi, they ruin everything!

I also think paying for a subscription to a video game is kind of dumb, especially since I have to pay for the software to start with. It would make more sense if you subscribed to the game and they sent you the software. Why should I have to buy a license to run the program, then a subscription to be able to use it?

Well, I am sure that would be cool and all for you Johnny, but I don't think anybody else really knows you enough to want to go out and by a game about you.

I am just kidding, I know what you meant.
