Originally posted by: AuggieBenDoggie Adywan, I was just curious if you did anything with Luke's and Ben's entrance into Mossisley ( The immediate entry where the speeder flies over head and into the the city. ). Lucas changed the look of it twice, and I was wondering if you changed anything about it in your version. I cant remember if it was talked about in this thread or not. My apologies if it has been.
Originally posted by: AuggieBenDoggie Yes twice. Take a look at the 97 special edition, and then take a look at the 04 special edition. The differences aren't too hard to spot.
Yeh, the changes are pretty noticable. You can see the differences in the comparisons below. The shots are all taken from exactly the same frame for each version. The '97 SE had more rats & a different speeder and as you can see the speeder entered frame a lot earlier. In my version i have removed the rats from the left hand side of the screen and lengthened the shot so you see the speeder enter the spaceport now. Those are the only changes, apart from colour of course.
I feel stupid now, I thought you meant the moment of when they look down on the city from the cliff. I see it now, '04 is an improvement and Ady's even more.
Thanks Adywan, I never liked all those rats that were in those two versions, and the over all look is alot better. I wish Lucas had shot the speeder in live action and then composited it into the scene instead of doing it in CG.
Bkev, my appologies if I confused you. I wish I could have posted a screen so there would be no confusion.
Please, Eros. There's a difference between constructive criticism and hanging shit on something for no good reason; you and RB seem to be well and truly on the hanging-shit side of that particular fence. On our side, well, we may be rather enthusiastic — so what? If we weren't, why even be here? Why are *you* here?
To be jealous is to be in competition in some way, I have no interest in editing star wars or any other film for that matter. I do take interest in other peoples efforts, but the main reason I come to this site is to monitor various activities in restoring the original 1977 movie as closely as possible. All these projects seem to be quiet at the moment, hence why I am taking an interest in this editing project of Adywans.
If I see something that looks wrong to my eyes I will post a comment to highlight the fact. It isn't sarcasm or disrespect, simply a fact.
Now the geeks and teenagers may have a problem with criticism, but without it nothing would ever improve or advance.
Eros, your idea of "taking interest" is sharpshooting everything anyone has to say with snide remarks. If you have constructive comments or criticism, I have yet to see them. For the record, a lot of the people behind this effort are not teenagers and while some of us might arguably be geeks, I've never considered that to be something negative. If there are teenagers posting here, then they've certainly been posting with more than a modicum of maturity and professionalism because the only two people that sound like petulant teenage punks around here are you and Remixer. Maybe you both should take a hint from these "teenagers."
Get in the game, either as a mature supporter or diplomatic critic, or take a hike and find something constructive to do.
You basically just told Adywan his project is going to look like shit because it's being released on DVD. Obviously he's not able to put it out on Blu-Ray or HD-DVD so what do you expect him to do? Making a comment like that is just plain rude and absolutely adds nothing to the discussion. I'm sure if you had ever done anywhere close to the amount of work on a project that Adywan has done on this you might be a little more appreciative of what he's doing. As it stands you just come off looking like an ass.
By the way, I have plenty of DVDs(both DVD-5 and DVD-9) that look perfectly fine on a big screen. Sure they don't look as good as hi-def, but they still look damn good.
<sarcasm> Making a DVD in this time of a clear, concise winner in the next-gen format wars is ludicrous. I mean, Star Wars: SE Revisited is going to look terrible when it's shown on in a big screen in a professional movie theatre. And I think time has told us that anamorphic DVD is barely above VHS quality when shown on the average television, even up to 80+ inches wide. My eyes cannot tolerate pixelation below HD quality! </sarcasm>
I have a sony dvd player that upscales to 1080i through HDMI, I must say when I watch dvds on my 42" hdtv, they look damn good. In fact some times they look better than some of the hd content I get from cable. So bring it on adywan, I can't wait.
For the death star explosion.. I imagine you may be doing something new for this, but if not, will you get rid of the weird blue and purple digital noise that occurs in the fringes of explosion?

Yes i am doing something different for this shot but i'm not going to give away any details.
