What programs do you use to secure your PC?

I was wondering what programs you guys use for protection against viruses, worms, trojans, spyware, adware, phishing, and hackers.

I've used avast! (antivirus) in combination with Spybot - search and destroy (anti spyware).
I also used Norton internet security in the past but that has been over 2 years ago.

Currently I'm trying a trial of NOD32, but I had no program installed for spyware. So today I installed Spybot and did a scan and it found a lot of threats. But Spybot doesn't work very well on my PC.

I'm looking for a single program that protects against all threats. Does anyone have a suggestion?

I use a combination of the free version of AVG Antivirus and the free version of lavasofts adaware. I haven't found any single tool, but the combination of these two have served me well for a very long time without so much as costing me a penny.

Yeah, I wouldn't rely my computer security on just one program. I run AVG & Clamwin for antivirus, Zonealarm free for the firewall, along with Spybot & Ad-Aware for spyware.

I use nothing because all those updates are fucking annoying.

I think I'll give ad-aware a try, already 2 people who use it

Ferris, do you run AVG and Clamwin simultaneous? Don't they conflict?

Sean, are you serious or just kidding? No antivirus or antispyware? Do you even update windows itself?

You should upgrade to v3.11. It's sooo much better.

Does anyone have experience with Kaspersky, Zonealarm or Norton internet security suite? They seem like nice complete packages.

I would highly recommend trying out some of the free ones before paying for something. AVG is free, simple and it doesn't feel like it takes over your entire computer like other virus protection sometime do. You have complete control over it, and once you have it set up you will hardly remember it is there. Ad-aware is the same way, but even more simple that AVG. Between the two of these, I have never had any problems. I am sure some of the programs that you pay for might work better, or be an all-in-one solution, but why pay for what you can get for free. I have been using the free version of AVG Anti-virus for years, and I have noticed a lot more people seem to be switching over to it. Keep in mind, there is a premium version for both of these programs that does cost money, if you go to download it make sure it is the free edition.

Mac OS X

Seriously, when I was a Windows user, I used nod32 for antivirus and loved it. Very small footprint and really good at what it does. I never used anything else for security; my router has a firewall built in and I never cared enough about spyware to perform a system scan.

Nah, I don't run them simultaneous, I have one set to run one day and the other the next. One seems to catch something the other didn't at least once a month.

My PC uses nod32 for viruses, and I run Spybot Search and Destroy every so often for spyware. I also use Registry Mechanic often as well as Security Task Manager for times when I wonder about certain programs that are running in the background.

And the Mac, well, I haven't run into any problems yet even though I use Azureus and binary downloader every now and again. I wish I could defrag my hard drives though.

I'm currently trying the newest NOD32, but it's now called Eset Smart Security (basically it's NOD32 v3 with build in anti spyware/spam and firewall). It work pretty good so far.

For spyware scanning I use AVG's anti-spyware and Lavasoft's AdAware. I read somewhere that it's good to use two different programs for this as some programs have a tendency to overlook certain types.

For anti-virus I use AVG.

All of it is free, and things have been running well for a long time.
