Some random tips. What's the job?
- Dress nicely!
- Prepare for questions they can ask
- You have to know you strenght and weakness and use it to your advantage.
- Also ask some questions yourself to show you are really interested.
Fez: I am so excited about Star Whores.
Hyde: Fezzy, man, it's Star Wars.

Yeah, Arnie's tips were really good ones. I think the very last one he mentioned is quite important, and something a lot of people fail to do during an interview. Ask questions to show you are really interested in the job, and give them the impression you really care about getting the job and that you will do your best to succeed at it. If you really don't care that much about the job (i.e. a McDonald's interview where you will only be working there short term and couldn't care less about the company) then obviously don't follow this step as you will just come off as an ass kisser. But if it is a job you are sincerly excited about and really want to have, express that.

I think I got the job, the interview was at Meijers which is a place like Wal-Mart those those of you that don't have one near you. They said I'm going for an oriientation. That means I got the job right?

Yeah, that's a pretty good sign. If they're sending you to an orientation, chances are they're going to hire you/have hired you. They'll bring you in, show you around, show you everything you'll be doing. Most places aren't going to do that if they have no plans to hire you.

there are some places tho that will put a group of people through orientation. And then only select some people from the group. But if it's just you that's a really good sign. Not all places do things the same way so it's hard to say just how 'hired' you are at this stage.

Good luck [just in case.]

Do you know what is a good way to pass time at my job? Could I wear headphones while I do carts with a hood up?

Well, my advice would be to ask your employer, or whoever is directly above you if that would be okay. Back when I was in college I had had jobs where I was allowed to use headphones. It really depends on the kind of job usually. If it is the type of job where you just have to press a button every 17 seconds (yes, I had that job once), or cleaing up a construction site, raking leaves, jobs that don't require your ears, etc. then there isn't much of a reason for them not to. If it is the kind of job where you will be working with or even around customers, or in a dangerous area where your ears might be of use for the sake of keeping yourself and others out of danger, or where you need to be able to hear your boss, etc. then it would be pretty reasonable for them not to allow you.

Whatever the case is, I would not recommend doing it discretely or trying to hide it (like under your hood for example), sooner or later somebody will notice, and chances are you will have a fellow employee or two that don't like you and would be happy to get you in trouble... or any other number of cases, and if it is against the rules then you might risk losing the job.

What do you mean "do carts", if you are gathering carts in a parking lot I would not recommend using headphones because you have to be listening for cars that speed across those things. I've seen a couple of folks get hit already in parking lots.

You may be able to get away with wearing a single earphone. Ask your supervisor if it's ok for you to wear a radio with a single earphone.

On a related note, you haven't been working there that long (you posted on your fourth day). So you've worked no more than 16 hours and you're already bored out of your mind. I would also tell your supervisor that if they have any other jobs for you, you'll do those too. Otherwise, do whatever you can and stop looking at your watch.

When I worked at FedCo, as shitty as that place was, my supervisor actually listened. I was one of the few grocery dept guys that liked working the register (because the time absolutely flew by). So he put me there whenever he could. Any other time I ended up pulling soda and water as well as some other things. The soda and water aisle kept us really busy since water would practically fly off the shelf. I'd get it restocked and it would be practically empty on my next run.

I still have it and am doing well and making friends but I'm still applying at other places. I don't like to push carts.

I usually pull the carts, when you have about 7 or more carts they tend to be hard to control by pushing with one person, so it is easier to pull.
