Star Wars Vault or the Making of Star Wars?

With the 50% member discount coupon for Barnesandnoble-dot-com circulating, I'm thinking about getting one of these books to reward myself for defending my dissertation. Does anyone have an opinion as to which is a better, more enjoyable and informative book? (BandN says that Vault isn't available till Tuesday, but it was on the shelves at my local B&M BandN today.)

Without having yet seen the Vault myself, I can however say that Rinzler's Making of is probably the absolute best product on behind-the-film to ever have been released. I don't care how good The Vault is, get Rinzler's Making of, because that is an absolute necessity IMO, definitley the best behind-the-scenes book I have ever read and I guarantee that you will not regret. The Vault is a sort of typical "bonus material" type stuff but The Making of Star Wars is absolutely definitive.

"The Making Of" book is a must-have. It's one of those books that when you start reading it/flipping through it, you can't help but become totally immersed in it.

I haven't seen the "vault" book in person yet, but it seems like it might be an amped-up version of "The Star Wars Scrapbook-The Essential Collection" (also by Sansweet) that came out a few years back (in other words, maybe a bit gimmicky?)

I've been debating whether or not to get the "vault" book, but "the making of" was a no-brainer for me.

just make sure you get the hardcover version of the making of star wars by rinzler i bought the trade edition and missed out on the exclusive bonus material like alex tavoularis and ivor beddoes storyboards.

cannot wait for his definitive making of raiders of the lost ark.

rinzler's next book sadly is the making of indy IV to tie in with when the movie comes out.

the coolest thing about the vault as far as i'm concerned is the reproduced pages of lucas empire strikes back handwritten treatment. from what i've heard it is only a couple of sample pages and is not complete, unless someone here says otherwise.

i've never understood why lucasfilm just does not release the scripts and prototype scripts and film treatments to the public in terms of "editions" in book form.

yes i know rinzler analyzes the journal of the whills treatment in the making of star wars but they did not reproduce it as a facsimile inside the book.

I understand his next book will cover the production of all four Indy movies. Take a peek here.

Then everyone would know that Anakin Skywalker wasn't the main idea from the beginning.

nooooooooooo! raiders at least deserves it's own making book.

they are going to squeeze the making of four movies into like 500 pages or something and give a minimalist take on it great, just great.

hey at least del rey is reprinting the indiana jones trilogy as an omnibus edition for those who never got to own the books they have been out of print and hard to find unless you use ebay and abebooks and shell out a lot of money or get shitty dog eared reading copies.

as for the novelization of indiana jones IV i could not give a rats ass about that. i willl decide whether or not i will go see the film when i actually get a hold of the script and read it.

i hope the revised making of empire strikes back and return of the jedi are not thrown together in a single book they deserve their own release.
