I know. And MPEG-2 is more efficient than VCD MPEG-1. (I sometimes burn CD-Rs with VCD-bitrate "modified vobs", my standalone player has no problem with them, and the video and audio quality are a bit better than a real VCD. Plus you get menus )

@ reave: 100", thats pretty impressive. I have a 73" RPTV, what kind of projector are you using? Anyway, I would rather have a DVD9 than a DVD5, even if I have to torrent the file.

Now for some bad news....

There is still so much to do on this edit that a November release is now unlikely. There is still a very slim chance that it will still happen but i'm not going to rush anything. December is also probably off the books. At the rate i am going the later half of December is looking more likely but then that clashes with the Christmas postal rush so if this is the case then i will delay it until the beginning of January so there will be no postal problems but i may upload it to usenet at an earlier date, but juts the DVD-5 version for now

I'm very glad you're taking your time ady and not pushing things. I was getting worried that you were going to do a rush job on your edit and get it out by November no matter what. In a twisted sort of way the waiting for your edit is kinda fun. The anticipation is what makes great movie watching, especially a Star Wars movie, such an enjoyable experience. I haven't been this amped since waiting for TPM back in '99. Of course that turned out to be a major disappointment, but that won't happen with your film. Your work and commitment are second to none. God speed, adywan. Happily waiting 'til January 2008.

I know that for me, part of what's making it so hard to wait is the fact that I don't feel like watching the official DVDs anymore -- the color imbalances and poor-looking laser effects (among other things) are just too distracting. And yet I want to watch Star Wars . . . but just don't want to watch the versions I have.

It's just a testament to the impact of your work, Adywan. I'm looking forward to re-experiencing the films, and truly enjoying (i.e. not being distracted by the inconsistencies) what I'm seeing on the screen for the first time in a long while.

Take care,

These are my thoughts exactly......

As this is a nitpicking edit (which I absolutely love btw), I thought I'd nitpick a bit as well (*hopes he doesn't get flamed for not saying positive things*)
I was going through the 'official screenshot pack' and saw this 'broken' tie fighter wing in image 34

http://imgcash4.imageshack.us/img102/5343/image34erroruq6.jpg

It looks like the x-wing was layered above the tie, no?

I'm also not very sure what to think of the new planet below the death star and the new Death Star displays...
But looking at all the other amazing things you've done, I'm sure you'll pull it off just fine

Ady, that is a crazy amount of work shown there.

A quick question...

I don't know if it is a continuity error or something else, but it appears that there is a discrepency in the grime and dirt on the panel where the restraining bolt is attached to R2. The Tantive IV shots show R2 with a relatively clean panel. The Tatooine footage has the panel much darker with a spot already wiped off for the bolt even before he is captured by the Jawas. More of me being nit-picky, but is seems that the wiped of area shouldn't appear until after he gets the bolt. This make sense? I'm not at home so I can't post any screencaps.

Ady, is this the first "behind the scenes" screencap from Star Wars Revisited?! Talk about insight into the "redevelopment" of Star Wars!

Personally I 'm hoping for in frame / burnt into the picture because that is the most film-like in presentation... what say you?

The Greedo subtitles are burnt into the picture & in frame.

I think i know which mark you are talking about. Is it this one?

If it is then as it is consistent throughout that scene i have no plan on fixing it. It could be put down to the way he was "dirtied" for that scene. The mark i was more worried about was the shot where the Jawa is about to attach the bolt. you can clearly see the mark where a restraining bolt was to be placed. so i fixed that,

yes it is the first one. i plan on doing a "making of " documentary for the bonus DVD that will incorporate both original behind the scenes footage from old "making of" docs and new stuff showing how i did some of the work on Revisited . In that screenshot you can actually only see one third of the actual layers & footage on the project layout that was needed to create this one shot alone. i guess now you can see why its taking so long to complete.

That screenshot is actually extremely informative, Adywan -- and it's given me some insight as to how you're approaching some of your changes. Thanks for giving us a glimpse into your compositing methods!

And check out those mask points on the X-Wing! Are you rotoing that, or is it keyframeable at all?

Take care,
Sojourn

P.S. Not to get all crazy technical here, but why are the masks visible, even though it's a video layer that is selected? Are those masks on that layer? And if so, why? I have a few guesses, but instead of writing them all out, I figured I'd just ask you.

How long will the bonus dvd take to create? Definitely release the movie first. Only joshing, keep up the great work Ady.

Hey Adywan,

Do you fancy compositing the original Jabba scene back together for me? I think you need a break from this project

Seriously, this is an AMAZING project!! It blows me away.
