Yes you do.

Ady,

A couple questions:

Do you happen to have a "company" logo for yourself, like Lucasfilm, Fox, THX, etc...?

Is there a tag-line for your edit, i.e. "Horror Beyond Imagination" or some such coolness?

I've got some ideas for a cover and may whip one up myself.

I wasnt sure what you meant here, is the movie going to be on 2 disks?

No the movie will be on the first disc and the special features on the second. But this is only if i decide not to go down the DVD-9 route.

I hope you decide on the DVD-9.....the reason for me is purely self centered.....my family watch our movies on a 51" Hitachi and soon will be upgrading to a 61" Samsung, so any little differences in bit rate really are amplified while watching the movie on a big screen TV, it would be such a shame to watch your awesome edit only to see artifacts because of a low bit rate......anybody who watches DVDs on tube TVs isn't going to notice much difference.....IMO only.

What do you think Ady? I've noticed that the fan edits on Fanedited.org sometimes are offered in both sizes...just a thought...

I also vote for the DVD-9 and am willing to wait for that - This project has been top-notch from inception. It would be a shame to see artifacting simply for the sake of impatience on my part.

Couldn't that be a problem for people who want to PIF but don't have a dual layer dvd burner?

yes, but what your point? The rest of us suffer because of the few who have outdated equipment? If you want to PIF a DVD-9 buy a DL burner simple as that. DL burners are dirt cheap now so there really is no valid reason not to PIF a DVD-9 if that is what you want to do.

For those who can't I'm sure there will be ample ways to acquire the edit, there always are.

If enough people can get dvd9 out there then that's fine. Just possibly more workload on those people.

I'm not saying 'don't do it', I'm asking a question on something I'm not sure about.

What about those who don't have the moneys to buy a DL burner, and then all the disc's to PIF. Please don't be an ass and presume that everybody can just go out and buy the equipment necessary. Some of us here have a family and kids to feed. And a missus that would go spare if her other half splashed on on all this stuff just to watch a film 'you've already got'

+1 for a DVD-9 just for the main feature, with a seperate DVD-5 for the extras.

- As Adywan said, it means the extras can come later and not hold up the release of the main feature.
- Best possible picture quality - what are you using to encode the video?
- Don't forget that as this has been sourced from the DVD, the video has already gone through a lossy process once, and therefore will need as much bitrate as possible to avoid concatenation of any compression.
- If Adywan does a seperate DVD-5 as well great, or surely people could just DVD Shrink the DVD-9 version?
- There's no reason for the PIF to be on a DVD+R DL - you could spread the VOBs across 2 x DVD-Rs or use WinRAR to store the .img file across two DVD-Rs.

To put the whole Dual Layer thing into perpective, it looks like the drives cost about £20 in the UK at present - the same as a DVD. Ignoring people's confidence in upgrading their own Pcs, would it be fair to say that those who have BIG TVs, and therefore benefit from the best bitrate, probably have Dual Layer Burners / the money to afford a Dual Layer burner. Those who have older CRTs who won't necessarily notice the bitrate (because CRTs usually take the 'edge' off images) and might not have / can afford Dual Layer burners will probably want the DVD-5 version.

Just my 2p worth.

PS - What are you authoring this in Ady?

Fair enough.

Suppose dvd 9 is the way to go.

Just wish the missus would let me splash out on the big plasma, but she won't. "Don't need a big TV...what's wrong with the one we've got" blah, blah

I have no problem burning DVD-9, so sign me up for the NTSC PIF chain. If you're taking sign-ups, that is.

How about you refrain from calling people names? What, are we ten years old or something?

Why all the hostillity towards PIFing? You seem to think thats the only way to see ady's work? Ever hear of torrents or a certain newsgroup? You need to take your meds and calm down.

I too have a wife and kids but also have a $20 burner and $40.00 worth of discs.... And just how much were the 2004 SW DVDs? or maybe the 2006 DVDs with the GOUT? So your bitching about potentially spending less money on Ady's edit ( which is far superior than anything Lucas put out) than on the retail DVDs....whatever, to each his own but leave your "ass" calling out of it.

I have no problem PIF, I just don't have a DL burner. But staring at the one at work right in front of me it says 'RW DVD+ R DL' does that make it usable? If so, sorted.

And you just caught me on a bad morning that's all. Sorry about the 'ass' comment. Was no need!

Same here m8. Maybe I came off a little strong but I really hope that Ady decides to go the DL route, so I guess when I defend that so hard it seems like I could care less about anybody elses predicament.....not so....I'm just really excited to see SWR, that's all.

This is all mute anyway, I'm sure the edit will be available without having to PIF for those who can't or don't want to......

My problem isn't the DL burner (what is "PIF"? I've never heard that term before...),

rather, it's that none of the stores in my area carry blank DL media. So I'll have to order them online and then wait...
I admit it's been awhile, but the last time I checked, they were a lot more expensive than regular burnable dvd.

In any case, we've got at least a month to wait, and maybe another month after that for the NTSC version. Still, it'll
be fun to see, assuming another hard drive failure isn't going to happen, right folks?

That and other wonderful acronyms are explained right about here. But to save you a little time:

PIF - Pay It Forward. You send out a disc to a person in return for a pledge from that person to send out (usually three) more copies to others, who then in turn each send out 3 more discs, and so on.

Thanks, Mother's sig!!!
