Another PT "what if"...

So, I was watching the TPM theatrical trailer, and I'm like "whoa, this looks awesome." And it got me to thinking - what if the Sith had done the blockade, and not the Jedi? What if it was a full-frontal assault, maybe just showing the jedi they exist?

Or, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan could be on a mission to take the world leaders (Padme) originally to Coruscant, while searching for any leads as to sith activity - and leads as to why they have revealed themselves. The Tatooine part would be unavoidable, but it would be Obi-Wan who finds Anakin - however, Qui-Gon still sees greatness in him (no prophecy here!) and takes him with them. As for the senate discussions, they should only be mentioned at most or totally wiped out - it slows the movie down, and it's just one of those moments.

Just after they leave to return to Naboo, the Sith launch a full-scale attack on the Republic and seize power. When Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan find this out, they hide. Meanwhile, they explore Anakin's abilities.

Yoda? I don't know, I haven't come up with something.

Palapatine? A known Sith leader, NOT a Naboo senator.

Well, I guess it sounded good when I first thought of it - but I can't tell anymore. It may just sound like a bad fanfiction by now, and if so, just give your thoughs on the very beginning (Sith assault).

In the category of things I thought after watching the trailers but before seeing the movie back in the day, it annoyed me what they did with Palpatine.

I think it was the Time magazine article where I found out that Palpatine in his "Emperor mode" which had been glimpsed in the theatrical trailer actually had a name, Darth Sidious, and it annoyed me since we already had one "Darth" in the movie and now we had two, not to mention that we all knew beyond the shadow of doubt that this guy was the same character as Palpatine, just in disguise. To rewind even further, I remember back in the early to mid 90's finding out "The Emperor" actually had a name, Palpatine. By the time the prequels were about to be released we knew Senator Palpatine would make an appearance. Then I read that Time article and I thought "why does he need three names now?"

There's also the prologue of the Alan Dean Foster novelization to consider. So what you're talking about in regards to Palpatine, bkev, is beginning the story after that prologue. If I may say something I've been wanting to for a while on these boards, it sounds like a lot of people here simply wanted the PT to be "more of the OT," not that it's a bad thing at all. We could've had the Empire there from the beginning or at least by the end credits of Episode I, and I'm totally willing to entertain that idea. I probably shouldn't even be bothering to bring the novelizations into this discussion anyway since there are discrepancies with the movies, so you either choose one version, the other version, you find a way to reconcile them or you just go strictly on what's in the movies.

Also in this category, I was expecting an actual entrance for Yoda in the movie, not a simple cut to him sitting with the rest of the council. Maybe this is way too silly of a scene, but I was imagining something along the lines of a guy heralding Master Yoda cutting to a low angle shot of the other Jedi turning around and we realize this is Yoda's POV shot. We intercut this with a tracking shot of him from the front as he grunts and looks from side to side walking into the chamber.

I've gone through this in my head a thousand-thousand times on how to "fix" Star Wars. Unfortunately, it involves changing ROTS, too. Leia wouldn't be Luke's sister. Luke wouldn't be the son of Skywalker (actually he'd be...yup, the son of Darth Vader...a name, not a title. Yup, Vader actually did kill Anakin Skywalker), and THEN episodes 1-3 would fall nicely into place.

In my prequels, there would be no Yoda at all (in order to preserve Yoda's appearance in ESB), he would just mysteriously vanishing, leaving behind a vague message that he wasn't physically strong enough to fight the coming Sith; and thereby justifying Obi-Wan's decision to take on Anakin's training himself.

Obi-Wan would be a little older--not a young Jedi Knight, or even a padawaan. Right off the bat, he'd have a student...Darth Vader before he finds Anakin.

Mandalores will be the main enemy, but the Sith would have an integral part in their battles, aiding them, using them for their own ends. There could still be battledroids and destroyer droids, used by the Mandalores since they're short on manpower and depend on technology to make up for their lack of living soldiers, which then gives us the impetus for their invasion on Alderaan (that's right, I said Alderaan, not Naboo), which has ancient, but banned, cloning technology.

Palpatine would be placed into power within the first Episode; or even Chancellor/President already! (and he wouldn't be from Alderaan, an entirely other planet, an innocuous planet, he would appear as if he was the puppet, he was being used by other senators, but in fact, was using them in his greater scheme. He would keep Jedi away from the senatorial proceedings, even claiming that their Jedi mind tricks would influence senators).

As for the Jedi, the Force is not with them. No new Jedi potentials have emerged in the last decade or so (in fact, Vader would be the last known Jedi-in-training). So, the Jedi are desperate to fill their dwindling ranks (which are slowly being picked off by Sith and other enemies of the Knights). So, finding Anakin is a big deal!

TPM should've echoed ANH by starting the story later with Padme et al arriving on Tatooine and finding out why later.

Palpatine and Sidious - should've been clones and should've been the real catalyst for the clone wars - the whole "good and evil twin" cliche taken to a Star Wars extreme.

Obi-Wan Kenobi should have been OB-1 Kenobi (a clone designation - a name old Ben had not heard in a long time!)

Midichlorins should've been a psychedelic drug that makes you feel "closer to the force" whilst under its influence.
