Beautiful, just beautiful. That's all I can say.

I've watched the trailer and the new clip several times now, and I'm still noticing new things. It's like discovering the film all over again.

I can't wait to see this in its entirety. Well done, Adywan.

Can anyone post the link to the movie file? The Q&A document won't open for me.

WOW! Amazing! There is just one little thingy that bugs me. I know it's still work in progress but I tell you just in case.
The explosion right at the end, looks a bit odd. I think it's because it follows the camera as it pans to the right (it's like sticked in the center). I don't know if I expressed myself correctly. Anyway, keep up the great work!

Nice work, is this a completed clip?

Because if it isn't would it be too late to put some kind of parallax (think thats the terminology) movement between the DS and Yavin? As the planet seems to move with the DS making it look a bit 2 dimensional.

It appears correct to me, seeing as the ships get smaller and smaller.

I think it looks right, since the camera is centered on the tie fighter at that point, the explosion would stay centered as well.

This also looks correct, the DS moves much more quickly than Yavin.

I agree with g-force and my own filmmaking experience. I can see nothing wrong with the movement of Yavin in relation to the Death Star. I can't say enough about how amazing this clip is - and it's only a glimpse of things to come!

Ady, hope all is well.

Awesome clip!!, Everything looks so right, is completely seemless. I wish I would've been on the Q&A as well, I will definetely join the next one.

I do have to agree with NormanS on this minor thing though:
The explosion right at the end, looks a bit odd. I think it's because it follows the camera as it pans to the right (it's like sticked in the center)

But I can live with it, God only knows how much you have fixed already, and I thank you sir for all your hard work.

I have a question, on the Q&A you said you will add our names to the end credits, how do you plan to do this?, getting them all from this thread will be a major headeache.
I wish I had a Kryptonite cross, because then you could keep both Dracula AND Superman away.

I must say.....I always get excited about anything new to the Star Wars world.....I always want more. When the SE came out I was there with bells, the prequal Trilogy, lovin it! What you have done is truly a work of art and you deserve what ever path you create for yourself. Just the clips alone have rekindled hundreds if not thousands of fans excitement as if it were 1977 and about to see it for the first time. I will never forget seeing it then and I will always remember the 5 year old in me now with the anticipation to see this thing for the first time!

Thanks Ady!!

Look at the stars... they are moving to the left, that means the camera is panning to the right. And the explosion follows the cameras movement instead of sticking where the tie fighter exploded.

I know Star Wars is not exactly known for sticking to the laws of physics, but the explosion wouldn't stick where the TIE exploded, all the little pieces would continue along the path of the TIE's motion. It looks fine to me.

I just now looked at the clip again, and slowed it way down.

NormanS is 100% right. At normal speed, it looks odd, but slowed down, it's very obvious. The camera is definitely panning--the death star moves out of the frame, and there is a shift in the star field, but the explosion sticks right in the middle of the screen. Smack dab center, no doubt about it. It's not a biggie, all things considered, but it might be something Adywan will want to take a look at, because it'll definitely catch the eye of some folks.

To look a little more realistic, it would have to shrink quickly in order to give the sense of forward motion, away from the viewer, and move a little up and to the right, I think.

I think some people are making far to much out of this. For Christ sake what about the blatant matte lines we put with for 30 years with the originals. The poor guy can't fix everything, let Ady finish it! Anyone that has a problem I say this *GO LEARN TO BE AS GOOD AS ADY AT WHAT HE DOES AND FIX IT YOUR BLOODY SELF IF IT BOTHERS YOU THAT MUCH!*

Exactly. The camera is tracking the TIE's motion. If the TIE remains center screen as the camera moves, the explosion should do the same. Keep it.

I said it was not a big deal. Just a tiny thing. Don't be so dramatic.

I gotta agree with Troy - I think we've become spoiled with Ady's talents at times. Just having the fixes and enhancements we have on this one is truly exceptional. Can he fix it? Probably, but then again maybe not. Goodness knows what has to be deconstructed to do that, and he is a perfectionist so I'm certain he's looked at these shots 1,000 different ways - more than Lucas ever did...

Wow, i never thought that one explosion would cause so much fuss.

the TIE and the explosion were first composited without motion in a separate after effects composition. it was then added to the other elements and the motion path then added so that the explosion & TIE would have the same trajectory & scale. This is why the explosion looks like it is remaining central and because the camera is panning right and shrinking it quickly would make the explosion look very odd but it does shrink in scale to match the TIE (because it is on the same compositing track). I have tweaked the shot now so that the explosion moves slightly to the left.

And you are?? I was talking to the organ grinder, not the monkey.

Adywan, I'm refering to the cockpit shot side on to luke before he fires at the tie. The stars and planet shouldn't move out of shot as the camera is fixed on Luke, not panning. Just an observation. OK

Ouch! Please feel free to PM people if your comments are not open for discussion.

The stars and planets would move out of shot if Luke was banking left.

Not a very nice response to someone who was just voicing their opinion. he has as much right to voice his opinion as you do so i don't see why you have to be so harsh to him just because he doesn't agree with what you said. and i certainly don't appreciate being called the organ grinder.

Well i have to disagree here somewhat. slowing the planet down takes away the visual speed element because your eye fixes on the planet and the death star surface then looks more like a moving conveyor belt. having the planet move at the speed that it would in the real world makes Luke look like he is almost standing still. In the original the stars moving slower didn't matter too much because your eyes see the fast moving surface and Luke looked like he was moving fast. Now add the Yavin planet and things change so i had to adapt this so i can still give the impression of Luke's speed.

I really can't understand why such small things as this should cause such a problem. After all we all want to have the OUT in better quality and that is riddled with errors in both FX & visuals. I guess i have created a monster.
