Tellan, could you use a more friendly video codec for your animations. None of my players are able to play your newest and previous clips. Are you using the Huffy codec on your animations?

He is using Lagarith lossless codec. Download the codec and then you will be able to view the clips in windows media player.

but which animation do people prefer?

1 or 2.

one of them is more in line with the 'spirit' of the original movie. the other has a grander camera move but it is one that was done during the original film as well so technology wise it fits within the context of the movie.

I'm a bit more traditional on this one and prefer the first I think but I'm willing to hear arguments.

I only wish there were a Lagarith for mplayer/mencoder or avidemux, or that wine would support inf files.

Pretty cool, Tellen! It's hard for me to choose which I like better.
I would've told you (once the SE came out) that I liked the new shot better...but now I'm not sure.
I don't like (in the SE) how close you are to seeing Luke moving around in his cockpit...not sure why...
I guess we never see anything like that in the rest of the OT. Maybe that's why I don't like it...it's not consistant...?
The movement in both of your shots are nice, though!
Maybe the second shot would look better if the camera was further away? But what do I know?

Tellan,

I like the first test animation. The ships are just kind of slowly poking along, and I think it's a perfect match for the original shots in Star Wars. Your movements for the ships are very good too.

I had a quick request that's a bit off topic. I was wondering if you could post a screen of the Star Destroyer barreling down on the Tantive, the one after the pan down and the first shot of the Tantive running from the Star Destroyer. I noticed about ten pages back or so you showed some real cool shots of some recovered star fields. I need to see how many stars you got back in that shot, and how!

well two developments fellas

1.) the anims are coming
2.) my wife just filed for divorce. (non star wars related) the only consolation is there are no kids in the middle of this.

sooooo updates may be a bit thin on the ground for the next few months. I'm a bit of a mess at the moment.

tech question

adobe premier is having trouble importing video files with lagarith codec. is there are plugin required?

I had major problems with adobe premier & the lagaryth codec. After i finally managed to import the lagaryth files( i had to run it through VirtualDub first using full processing setting to get it to do this) My out put files would have corrupt frames with lots of coloured bolcks in. But if i rendered the same clip a second time the corrupt frames would be in a different place. I gave up using Premier totally and just use Adobe after effects & vegas 7 now. I can get much better results with these two progs too.

Hello Tellan,
I recall reading in the lost scenes thread that you were going to re-encorporate (spell?) the scenes with Biggs on Tatooine. Any luck with that?

Tellan, I understand that you've been dealing with your divorce - but are there any updates on this project?

nothing new I'm afraid. the wife moved out last week but we are currently in peace talks to get back together. so ongoing heartache and god knows what else round the corner.

I've picked and pawed at it a little in the last few weeks just to keep occupied and keep my sanity but basically it's on hold at the moment until my personal life sorts itself out. sorry guys, you'll have to content yourself with Ady's edit until mine comes along and blows his away. (tongue firmly in cheek)

Good luck, Tellan. It sucks when real life gets in the way of fun.

And waiting (just a little bit) on completing yours might not be a bad idea. Adywan's project is a tour de force. A freakin' juggernaut on these boards. I'd hate to release anything in the shadow of that. Reminds me of seeing UHF in an empty theater because everyone was still watching Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

well you're right, he is a juggernaut, besides, there are also a few scenes I will (hopefully) have the kind permission of his to use in my own version.

basically, my version has become over the past two years a hybrid of mine, DE's, and Ady's stuff. so I'm waiting for his anyway. in a way.
