This is simply the way Mr Lucas should have FINISHED tinkering with the films in 1997! AWSOME work Sir! Bravo!!! Quite stunning! I cannot wait to see this on my projector

The Little Theatre in Bath does private screenings. It's a really nice, small cinema. It's something like £200, but there are 50+ seats so we could easily book it out if there was enough interest. Not very central though! I am quite tempted to book it to watch this movie anyways as a birthday present to myself...

Its my opinion that having a private screening would be a huge mistake. If there is any one sure way of getting the attention of LFL a private screening is it.

If anything lets wait a few years in order to give Adywan, if he wishes, time to finish the other two movies first before we get all hot and bothered about a private screening......again just my 2 cents.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

I agree. Take it one success at a time and wait until the whole OT is finished before contemplating anything beyond.

Maybe Ady can finish the X0 Project next...

I too would steer clear of private screenings - esp. if they are announced and seat prices/donations occur.

I'm sure this has been covered but can someone remind me if the NTSC version is eventually going to be on Rapidshare?

As someone who formerly worked in Hollywood I can safely say private screenings are a sure-fire way to have the edit tracked and shot behind the barn by Lucasfilm's gestapo. I do have this feeling though that like The Phantom Edit, this is going to make some waves in the more mainstream arenas eventually.

Doesn't Lucasfilm encourage fanedits now? I'm lost.

The key thing is: You CANNOT make money off of them. Once money comes into play, its game over man. Game over!

Fanedits that are watched privately in your own home....on a big screen in some theatre somewhere? NO WAY. Especially a top quality fan edit like Adywan's....where it looks BETTER than the LFl effort.....

I bet LFL would still cry even if it was free.....probably complain that the showing cost them potential customers or some moronic thing......

Yeah - the "no money" defense is less and less effective these days with entertainment lawyers.

A private screening would have been nice to do but will likely never be a possibility because it would infringe on the copywrite laws. The only way this could ever happen would be with express permission from Lucaslfilm which i highly doubt would ever happen.

Well i have finally hit the nightmare section of the edit: Luke's trench run. So many shot have the trench background missing and adding the missing backgrounds is a very long and hard process. The background as it stands is totally black and matting out the cockpit where no information exists & then tracking its motion for the matte is bloody difficult. Its a frame by frame process at this point. One shot alone has taken me the past 3 days to do. Why most of red leader & gold leaders trench runs have the trench background in place but so much of lukes is missing this is a mystery to me. i know time became a factor when making star wars but its not as if they had to shoot a different background plate for these shots as they had already used it in prior shots. This has slowed me down so much i'm starting to panic because November is almost upon me and i still have so many shots to do. I really don't want to have to push the release date back yet again. Anyway here's a comparison screenshot of the new trench background:

Oh, and before anyone mentions that the colour has been stripped away from the cockpit then this is intentional. Once you have removed that horrible blue cast there isn't much colour left. But the main reason is that many shots from the SE DVD the cockpit has no colour so and i am doing my best to correct colour inconsistencies from shot to shot and it is hell of a lot easier to remove the colour than replace it. Here's a snapshot direct from the 2004 DVD with no colour correction:

This can't be helped because if i attempted to add colour to the shots then it looks horribly fake and i want to avoid that. This problem also exists, but to a lesser degree, in the OUT so i couldn't overlay footage from the gout for elements that are too desaturated to fix this.

I'm pretty sure I'm not alone when I say you should take as much time as it takes. November would be awesome. But I'd rather wait until February if it means the difference between a product you're happy with and one you had to rush to meet an arbitrary deadline. A few folks might groan, but they won't really mean it.

Agreed! I mean obviously youneed some time limit otherwise the tempation is there to keep on and on editing and eadding stuff in like Mr Lucas until you loose all objectivity.

Having said that this edit is looking like a bona fide classic in the maiing so I'd take as long as it needs, bu tno longer - if that makes sense

As others have said here now I think this edit will cause waves which will reach to the mainstream... would love to See Lucas's face - "why didn't WE do that?!?" hahaha!

I think it looks right that way, especially with the trench visible. The Death Star is reflecting a lot of light around the place; things are likely to look slightly washed out. I'd expect to see slightly more saturation on approach, but once near the surface or even in the trench, this looks right.

Like I say, I would probably spot the cost of showing it in a cinema myself for the experience. And no-one need ever know

Let's make sure not to mention the word screenings anymore. It just gives people reason to try to stop things. Playing it in your home is one thing...playing it out there in theaters in a another thing altogether.

Ady, once again your eye for perfection is admirable but I must echo the statements of others - I see nothing wrong or off-color about the improved trench shot - I think the color looks worlds better than the DVD and you should take all the time you need doing these shots right - I believe that if you take away the pressure of the deadline you will be able to breathe easier and the shots will turn out better - I also firmly believe that with your work ethic, it won't be too much longer past November, and if you're really worried about making the November deadline, how about a compromise:

When the November deadline hits, just release a video clip from the edit in celebration if it bothers you that much. I highly doubt you'll be too much farther away from the goal line. I think I speak for everyone here when I say that we want you to feel it is right, not that it is on time. Let's face it, everyone here waited 16 stupid years for Episode I and it turned out to be a nightmare - Maybe Lucas should have released a few screenshots and video clips like you have to give everyone a chance for input - Your work speaks for itself. We can be patient and wait a few more weeks. If you hadn't come along, we'd be waiting for a corrected Star Wars for all eternity...

Okay, a few quick points.

November deadline - take as long as you need. If you don't end up doing something you wanted to then you just wont be satisfied. To leave anything out due to time constraints would surely just be shooting yourself in the foot. The oportunity here is to get as much 'right' with the film as possible. If that means a few more months then fine. Really, we're lucky to be getting anything at all and should keep that in mind.

Private screenings, Gotta echo everyone else and say terrible idea. Even though you [Ady] agree, the point seems to keep cropping up. Not trying to have a go at anyone. We really don't want to get noticed by 'suits' here. We need to get this thing out there, under the radar so to speak.

And another point I'm not sure if we've hit on yet. What can we do about those people who will invariably try to claim this work as their own - and worse, they to profit from it?

My kids, wife and I have two weeks of vacation time that falls between Christmas and New Years.....LOL If I am blessed to have this in my possession by then my kids will be complaining and moaning.....you see they thought they would get to play video games for two weeks....little did they know they would be watching Star Wars Revisited for two weeks instead......LMAO. I can hear them now, "Dad can we please watching something else? We've seen SWR ten times already."

Adywan thank you for all your hard work.

Perhaps not much of a point to post this, since it's just echoing everyone else's posts, but...

Take all the time you need to get this right, Adywan. Personally I'd be much happier to be watching this in February and knowing it's the best work you could do than watch it in November and know that there were some aspects that you just "decided to live with" because you wanted to get the film done by a certain date. You've come this far -- might as well finish it to your satisfaction.

Also, the trench run looks terrific. I can't believe that, as someone who's seen the film dozens upon dozens of times, I've never consciously noticed the missing trench in the background. The colour in the scene looks good, at least to my eyes. Even if there is any "washing out" of the colour, I think the corrected brightness and contrast more than compensate for it.

Keep up the fantastic work Adywan; you're in the home stretch!
