I've learned not to get my hopes too high with Luca$, but the packaging looks like there could be 3 movies w/ multiple discs in it. If so, there is potential here...

I'd really like a boxed set of six movies, just so I can have my closure and never buy them ever again. Perhaps that's why we'll never see them all in one box - customers like convenience, but profits can be made from confusion. We'll probably see a DVD boxed set of all six just as DVD becomes obsolete and HD versions (all flavours) are being pushed. As for extras, I really love the fan made stuff, especially DM, BE, RTJ ... now that's convenience!

It definitely looked like a 6 disc release.

Sorry Sluggo I don't think I could get a picture, but it was basically this image:

http://nerddump.files.wordpress.com/2007/09/sw-1977-classic.jpg

with the roman numerals I, II, III (in gold lettering) and underneath IV, V, VI (in silver lettering) and the words "30th Anniversary" at the top of the poster. That's all it said. Nothing about what edition the films were, but it was obvious it was all 6 films and it was for the 30th anniversary.

I reckon its just a box set of previous releases, rather than re-edited versions, but that's just a guess.

With it using the classic artwork, I guess it's the "Limited Editions" of the OT (including the SE and the GOUT) and the regular release of the prequels...

As has been said, it's more likely that it's simply a repackaging of the GOUT and the PT DVDs (apparently there are still some of the "limited editions" left). Really, I think that it was an official Lucasfilm product, they'd have made noise and made sure that no living thing was unaware of its existance.

That is one possibility, but then there's another: When Luca$ spreads word of his releases, the hype builds up, people get more info and tear the release apart (rightfully so) and some of the negative press damages sales. Maybe this time around Luca$ will wait until the last minute to announce the set, the hype is fast and hard and sales skyrocket...just in time for the Christmas season.

Again, I am not holding my breath, but my theory re: the SW well running dry very quickly gives me some hope, as they need to come up with a new product to really get the buy-in anymore....

The TV series is coming up though...

I've got the one that had the original versions of the original trilogy in the 2nd disc. That's all I need to keep me happy.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Red heads ROCK. Blondes do not rock. Nuff said.

Well if it is going to be all 6 movies in a tin with that image i guess they're just going to use the unsold tin that was released here last year

No amount of repackaging is going to make anyone want to buy these sets again unless there is some pretty good extras. My bet is that we won't see any new features until they decide which Hd format the will release the saga on or maybe when the TV series hits our screens and then they may release a ultimate edition DVd box set. Until then it will just be rehash after rehash of the same old disks.

Has anyone else notice where Luke's lightsaber just happens to be hanging?

As I thought, these appear to be repackagings. Couldn't care less.

Another store in Australia is selling all 6 movies at a really cheap price and I notice it says ¨Item on sale at this price until 20 Dec 2007.¨

Are we going to see a box set release 5 days before Christmas maybe?

What makes you say that Dantha? Would Lucas really do that for us. If he is, I'd be pumped.

I don't know about this stuff, but is this a good marketing strategy? To wait 5 days b4 Christmas?

SW boxset releases have always come out in Sept/Oct. and the individual PT movies have come out in November. Lucasfilm would be stupid to put anything out after Thanksgiving, cause the Friday after Thanksgiving is the biggest shopping day of the year. Lucas puts SW movies out before Thanksgiving, so the diehards can buy them the first week they are out, and that gives the remainder of the Christmas Shopping Season (6 weeks) for the casual fan to buy it for themselves or as a present for Christmas. Sorry guys, it is just too late for any new SW release this year, cause they are always announced 2-3 months in advance for the stores to get advertising materials ready. We gotta wait til next year for anything new.

Let's not forget The Force Unleashed was going to be released this year but got pushed back and according to the guy at millenniumfalcon.com, the boxset - whatever's in it - is ready but has been put on hold. Maybe we'll see the dvd released day and date with the new videogame.

I noticed they're selling toys from the deleted scenes (Biggs) and the cartoon from the holiday special, I wonder if there was going to be a dvd that included those. I know the toy business has a long lead time during which things could've changed on the dvd front.

Plus there was "30th anniversary" on all of the toy boxes. Maybe they honestly decided that was enough for this year, not that next year won't now also be crowded but maybe they decided it was the lesser of two evils in terms of when to publish The Force Unleashed and therefore the dvd set. Also, look at just how these videogames have gone along with dvd's. Battlefront spanned Episodes I, II, IV, V and VI and was released day and date with the '04 set, meaning it spanned all of the movies that had been released onto dvd thus far. The big deal about Battlefront II was all the new stuff from Revenge of the Sith, which was released onto dvd the same day. Then there's the GOUT with coincided with a Lego game centered only around the original trilogy.

Now I could just be setting myself up for major disappointment and probably am, but since Force Unleashed takes place between the trilogies maybe that's how marketing will tie in the boxset. Of course, it will probably be no different from the way Shadows of the Empire handled things, taking its time in the sun until something else came along a few months later (the '97 SE). 2008 will probably be similar, first Force Unleashed in the Spring and then The Clone Wars in the Fall returning Star Wars to the small screen after a long absence just as the SE returned it to the big screen after a long absence.

But I dunno, this is just me theorizing that they wouldn't release a new dvd set without a new videogame and just figured they couldn't wedge in the grand multimedia event of The Force Unleashed when there's a 30th anniversary toys/ comics/ books sale already going on. We'll just have to wait and see what really happens.

people lets all take a stance and not give pukas another dime until he respects the 00t and gives us restored anamorphic versions.

now all we need are garbage mattes and wonky colors in HD 1080P BLu Ray, and possibly non anamorphic letterbox HD, LOL!

If a widescreen DVD or HD-dvd or blu-ray disc fills your widescreen TV correctly.......then it's anamorphic.

Non-anamorphic widescreen is a 4:3 (square-ish) letterboxed image designed to be shown on a square-ish 4:3 TV.

HD widescreen images aren't designed for old square TVs- they're designed for newer widescreen TVs, so they're anamorphic.

I'm sure someone could explain it better but I'm tired.
