Damn, i really wish you had mentioned this a while ago. I've completed work on most of the new display graphics , including the new Death Star countdown screens, and would now be impossible to go back now to use your amazing font. There are so many different layers involved, each rendered in sections, that i would have to start from scratch to be able to change the font i'm afraid. I would have preferred to have used one that was movie accurate but i didn't know until i just read your post that Aurabesh wasn't. I still have a few more graphics to complete so i will be using your galactic font for these. Most people won't even notice the difference but i am a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to things like this. Thanks for the font Erikstormtrooper. I still have 5 more movies to do so at least now those ones will be more accurate.

Here's a shot of one of the new Death Star display graphics.

Hmm, that's odd. Well I might as well just post it here then. I was just wondering which special edition changes in ESB you don't like? Also, aside from his grin, why don't you like Hayden at the end of ROTJ, and do you think you'll keep the Naboo shot during the celebration?

Well i hate the new shuttle sequences added to the end of ESB. they just break up the flow of the action. I don't mind the new "alert my stardestroyer..." section but the rest has to either be minimised to one shot or gone completely. Also they add a nice new window in cloud city just before they meet Vader but for the rest of the sequence the window is back to its pre-SE appearance. Ad Hayden in ROTJ is one of the worse changes in the whole SE saga. He is looking straight at the camera, weird grin on his face and is just sooooooo out of place that i can't watch the DVD version of Jedi any more. Why the hell would he appear as a force ghost as his younger self? he turned back to the good side when he was an old man and that was the first time Luke got to see his fathers face. And i hate the excuses that "he was younger when he turned to the dark side so his ghost would have the appearance that he was younger" bollox. Luke wouldn't even know who the hell this guy was that just appeared by Obi-Wan & Yoda. It makes sense to me that he should be an old man when he appears and i will not be budging on that when i come to ROTJ. I will be keeping all the celebration shots at the end of ROTJ but just removing the "weesa free" line from it.

Including the non-descript "world music" ending soundtrack?.... Long live the Yuck-yuck song

Also for Jedi what version of Sy Snoodles will you be using, puppert or cg... I sure hope Lapti Nek is back.... most perferable the film version not the soundtrack version

As always keep up the good work man!

Even though I do not like the change on the OT DVDs and would have been much happier without it, my explanation for it is simple; force "ghosts" only show themselves in the form they are most comfortable with. They are not a physical entity any more, they are pure spirits they have no real image, they left their physical bodies and now are pure energy, Obiwan and Yoda show themselves as their old selves because that's how Luke knew them and they are comfortable with that image, is just a visual representation of what they once were, just as with Anakin he is not young or old anymore he is a spirit, energy, one with the force, whatever you want to call it, and he is only showing himself as what he once was and obviously now that he has been brought back to the light he is more comfortable with his younger good image than with his old darkside self. It's not that he got rewarded for being bad or evil like some poeple have suggested, is his choice and I'm sure Obiwan and Yoda have a choice too, as i said that's only visual representation of who they once were and they do not look like that anymore, they have no physical bodies.
I wish I had a Kryptonite cross, because then you could keep both Dracula AND Superman away.

Couldnt agree more. One thing that has annoyed with this new scene is the fact that James Earl Jones's voice is out of place with the action, you would expect a more annoyed tone of voice coming from Darth Vader at this point in the movie. There is a definite air of irritation in his tone all the way through ESB until this scene where Darth Vader then reverts to a just requesting a shuttle in a formal manner. He should have sounded incredibly "irritated "at this point rather than "matter of fact" delivery that was added in the SE. Im sure I heard that this dialogue track was actually part of ESB originally anyway but was cut although I find it hard to believe? although it may have been part of Star Wars?

Anyway Id be tempted to drop this whole scene and revert to the original format, who cares if we dont see Darth travel from cloud city to his star destroyer?

Anyway thats off topic. Keep up the good work with Star Wars! I havent watched Star Wars in over a year and a half now in anticipation of your version and during this time have even bought a widescreen TV and have yet to test it with my OT discs!!

You could argue that the ghost images are just a representation of the form of the person NOT consumed by the dark side at the point they passed away though, as thats the only evidence in the films up until the ROTJ SE?

Mind you where was Qui Gon Jins ghost in Episode II and III?

I blame the midicholrians....

"Yub-Yub" or the new "world music" will feature at the end if i can pull it off. i want an orchestral piece for the end. Asfor Sy then i won't be featuring any sort of musical number. i will just be having the band in the background similar to that of the cantina band in ANH so no song as such. But that could all change. It's going to be a couple of years before i get to ROTJ

As always, Ady is my kindred spirit on the other side of the water.

Young Anakin must go from the end of Jedi, no doubt about it. Ady', on your internal debate about the ESB shuttle scene, my vote is to excise it entirely. Half of it is Jedi footage anyway and the musical score is simply ruined by the break in the pace. By that point in the story the audience has seen enough space and ships in IV and V to safely assume Vader takes a ship back to his Star Destroyer. We don't need to see it. I also agree that the original "Bring my shuttle" line sounds much more appropriately irritated and angry versus the more mellow "Alert my Star Destroyer blah blah blah...."

Now if only something could be done about that dumb Special Edition Wampa in the beginning of the movie....

Sorry - ESB is like fine china for me, perfect in every way (although I am not including any "true" improvements Ady will likely add-he has proven he has a respectful eye for these things) - I hate what has been wrought upon ESB by the reckless special editions.

I've actually been wondering about that window. Ady, do you think you'll add the window or remove the window?

<Morpheus> It's what George Lucas might call "residual self image." </Morpheus>

But seriously, I think the only way Hayden at the end of ROTJ would have worked is if they would have had him replace Shaw in the unmasking scene too. Two actors playing the same character within the same 10 minutes just doesn't sit well with me.

I think the only way the change works at all is to show Shaw, Yoda, & Guinness in the shots where Luke is looking at them. Then in the final shot of them, show Hayden, Yoda as a young whatever he is, and Ewan McGregor (Liam Neeson optional).
Of course, for that to work, all would preferably be shot IN CONTEXT, not lifted from costume tests.

Or the better idea is to just leave it as it was in '83.

God almighty let's not forget the horrible changes made to the Emperor/Vader scene in ESB. The dialogue changes made there totally alter the story and make no damn sense whatsoever. That scene now makes me what to pull my hair out.

Well, now I feel like a putz for not bringing this up sooner. Sorry

There's always the HD version, right?

If it's any consolation, Aurebesh is used VERY frequently in the prequels. Lucasfilm kinda screwed the pooch with the consistency there. (shocker!) Come to think of it, there are different fonts in each of the six movies. I guess that's what you're trying to fix.

COOL!!!

And that new Death Star screen looks great. The skewing of the background grid implies that there will be some motion to the graphics. Sweet!

Are you still thinking this will be done Novemberish?

There is not hardly any Galactic Basic in ROTJ. Less than there is of Roman Alphabet writing and Aurabesh in ANH. Change the Glactic Basic in ROTJ to Aurabesh, and then Aurabesh will be the writing system in Star Wars. It would be much easier than changing the Aurabesh in ANH.

Adywan, are you going to recreate the opening crawl instead of using the fucked-up SE version?
