It's a sad, sad day.
Lucas once lamented the colorization of films he originally watched in black and white. Maybe he doesn't see the hypocrisy in allowing only the Special Editions to exist in a beautiful restoration since he, as the artist, changed them, but the effect on movie-goers is the same: the original versions which we came to love are not being preserved.
