My take on the Biggs/Wedge thing is that the Biggs line should stay. The whole "darn wheres my old buddy, he should be here to help me!" thing works very well for me. This is mainly because I don't think Luke would be counting on wedge to save him, because he hardly knows Wedge. If they knew each other well I think the wedge line would be a good thing. But the Biggs/Luke relationship has a very "I've got your back ' feel to it, and thats the way I think it should be. It works with their implied back story too, and gives Biggs a slightly bigger part, which I feel gives the Biggs scene before they depart more use (I love that scene).

This all depends on whether the Biggs scene in the hangar is included. With the hangar scene, the audience knows who Biggs is and that he's there. So, Luke is wondering when his friend is going to save his butt.

Without the hangar scene, the audience hasn't met Biggs yet. Luke's line comes off as a slightly out-of-place "I wish Biggs were here" yearning. Then latter in the battle, we realize Biggs IS there, when Luke says they're "going in full throttle". Then the auidience gets to have a slight WTF moment, and the whole thing comes off as not feeling right.

So IMO, it all depends on the hangar scene. In the Special Edition, the Biggs line works. In the original version, the mono-mix Wedge line works.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Exactly. And , since I think (and hope) the scene will be included, I think the line "blasted Biggs" works better. I mean, adywan did do that amazing fx fix with R2 being lifted up.

I like the Biggs line more than saying Wedge. I say keep it as is....

That is the only thing that I vote against so far in the edit...

Everything else was great!!

Isn't it "Blast it Biggs. Where are you? Unless It's on a mix I've never heard of.

BTW I like your attitude Ady of "FUCK It I don't care if I'm sick, I'm finishing this edit. We have to have that attitude for Football (American Football)

Myself, I'm not too fussed over the "Biggs/Wedge" edit, I'm happy with it staying Biggs but the other would have been OK. But that's what I like about the forum — we all contribute in a small way, and at least we know our feedback is being heard whether Ady accedes to particular suggestion or not.

Sorry to hear of your medical troubles Adywan (both with your body and the Establishment); I hope you manage OK, congrats on quitting, keep it up, and I so look forward to the completion of the edit. And to the Adywan Editions of Episode V and VI should you do them.

Ady, thanks for reconsidering the "Biggs/Wedge" line. It is - after all - YOUR edit.
How cool that you're taking suggestions from this community - that's one of many reasons I love this community
Keep up the good work - waiting with baited breath.

on the Biggs/Wedge line:

Unless I'm mistaken, when Luke is told he has a fighter on his tail, doesn't Wedge tell Luke that he was "On it", then Luke looks around and says the line?

Yeah your right. I think he says "Biggs where are you" because there best friends and he wants to know that they got each other backs.

ugh double post, sorry

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

I always wondered why the hell he said "Biggs" in that scene when Wedge said he'd come in and cover him. It doesn't narratively make sense, the way it's edited. And defending the Biggs line with the scene in the hangar is silly because that scene doesn't dramatically work because of everything cut out of the first act. Luke shows almost no remorse when his best friend of who knows how many years dies, and there's not really a way a fanedit can get around that. In the final cut of the flick, Biggs is better left just another member of Red Squadron.

Man...the Wedge/Biggs controversy might rival the Jabba or no Jabba scene...lol...

I feel that if it's left that way the "it'll be just like beggar's canyon back home" line doesn't work well. I know it's not 100% necessary to explain the line, heck Luke could just be talking to himself. I just think that It has so much more meaning with the whole Biggs subplot, and that changing it back to having him as just another pilot misses out on a cinematic opportunity.

Unless I'm mistaken, when Luke is told he has a fighter on his tail, doesn't Wedge tell Luke that he was "On it", then Luke looks around and says the line?

Yeah, you're right. But to me the Biggs line implies that Luke is wondering where Biggs is, and that he's thinking "why should wedge have to save me, I've got an old buddy for that sort of thing!" I just feel that it is in good keeping with their implied back story. Of course, this all depends on whether or not one feels that the hanger scene works well. As is quite apparent by now, I do believe it does.

This is the last I will say of the Biggs line.

I would agree that Luke's reaction to Biggs' death leaves something to be desired. But if anyone can fix this, it's Adywan. Maybe by adding in some relevant cue, giving Luke several different "reaction shots" back to back, or having Luke "zone out" for a few moments while the battle continues on around him. Or maybe by stealing the "I can't believe he's gone" line from after Ben dies (the visual with Leia aboard the Falcon might be enough for that scene), so that Luke can utter the "new" line over the com-link (assuming Adywan can get the audio to match).

Making Biggs a completely background character would work too. At the least, you'd have to alter the dinner scene on Tatooine so that Biggs is not mentioned.

And Adywan, sorry I didn't mention this sooner, but good luck with quitting smking and the weight loss.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Lest we all forget, Ady already did a ton of work fixing the wipe during the Biggs scene with Artoo being hoisted into the X-wing. I'm pretty sure Biggs is staying for a while.

I wouldn't say Luke's reaction leaves something to be desired in the trench when biggs gets killed.

he's shocked. and all other dialogue regarding biggs in the final battle or comments made by luke about Tatooine can just be ascribed to radio chatter.

I've had lengthy discussions with ady about the hangar scene. personally I don't think it works without the precursor on tatooine. but I digress.

On a completely different note, I noticed something not good in the garbage masher scene. I know it's quite late in the game and that this is probably common knowledge, but during a shot in the garbage masher Leia's dress has completely ripped down the side. All the way from the bottom up to almost the waist. Is this something you've fixed ady?
