What is the most distressing aspect of the PT? — Page 3

Yoda is secretly Anakin's father. It was Yoda's force essence that impregnated Anakin's Mother when they were yet world's apart, all those years ago.....so naturally Yoda would have a soft spot for the little shit.....

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

The most distressing aspect of the PT is that it is associated with the OT.

that George Lucas thought it would be a good idea for the emperor palpatine to be anakin's father and Luke's grandfather, lol

Or that chewie and han were raised as brothers on the wookiee home world. lets be thanfull these concepts did not make it into the movie proper although they were in earlier scripts as evidenced by the making of star wars revenge of the sith book by rinzler.

also Lucas ex Marcia was his best collaborator and someone who kept him grounded and added a warmth and human element to his films that was not there without her. She was literally the most talented editor hollywood ever had and the fact that she left the business is a great loss.
Even spielberg has said that marcia was a better editor than even verna fields.

she was literally in a creative aspect george's other half so he is now half what he was when he was with her.

her importance to the early days of lucasfilm is covered in depth in pollock dales biography of lucas skywalking and is notisably absent from lucas sanctioned apologist pieces.

It also covers the fights and competition lucas had with coppola which lucas denies really happened. Francis is like the older brother George never had, even he says so, so there were bound to be dissagreements which made both of there films better.

one of the thing people hardly ever talk about or consider is the imcompability in tone of both trilogys becuase an older george is different than his younger self. when one ages decades they are not the same person it is the same with authors of novels as with filmakers.

So, I was using ADigitalMan's Guide to MPEG2/AC3 Editing when I got to the point where I was using Womble MPEG Video Wizard to fix the MPEG file of Episode 3 which I had ripped.

I went to select the fix for my file, and the radio button selection inexplicably read "Fix GOP Time Code and PT Errors (Read + Write)" when it should have read PTS instead.

I figured it was just a program bug or something since it had always said PTS before. But when I clicked the radio button to start the fix, the program deleted the Episode 3 MPEG from my computer!!

Oh god where to begin. How it's wasted years of my life, affected the original trilogy, created more problems/questions than it helped solve/answer.

Overall, it's definitely Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

If I had to pick one thing, hmm. Anakin's "turn" to the dark side was crap and has anyways bothered me. I know He'd been "turning" for quiet some time but come on. He just snaps and kills everyone? That was the worst possible way lucas could have had him turn. "On no, I did wrong, so I'll just sell myself to you and go kill everyone including kids." I mean WTF. I suppose it was a fitting turn for the whiny little **** that he is, but still it was annoying. Also, well we're on the scene, I think having Anakin kill Mace Windu like that was crap, the emperor should have killed him in a hard fought battle, not was was essentially a cheap shot. I can think of more things but I'll leave it at that.

For me it was Padme's reaction(or total LACK thereof) after Anakin fully admits to her that he has just slayed women and children(sandpeople)! Are you kidding me? Anakin has just ADMITTED to mass murder of innocent women and children and all she can say is "Everyone makes mistakes" or something to that effect(I can't remember the exact line)? She doesn't feel the least bit creeped-out even?
If someone you knew told you they had just committed several counts of murder for a shaky at best reason, what would you do? In fact, what would ANY normal person do? WTF???? WHO WRITES THIS SHIT?! oh wait, I already know. LOL

I was really distressed by almost everything except the production design. But production design alone does not a good movie make ...

Robot Chicken about summed it up for me in the last few seconds of this clip:

the truly most distressing aspect of the prequels and everything star wars these days is the George Lucas of today is not the same as the one who created the trilogy back then.

i mean look at the documentary from star wars to jedi. lucas says in it and i'm directly quoting him. "a special effect is just a tool. a means of telling a story. people tend to confuse them as an end to themselves. a special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing".

this cannot be the same Lucas who supposedly finally got his original vision with the fake cgi of the special editions and the prequels. especially the prequels which are a special effect without a story, almost.

"A SPECIAL EFFECT WITHOUT A STORY IS A PRETTY BORING THING"

i wish lucas had remembered this and hollywood took it at face value. sadly the fake cgi pushed forward by ilm is the only thing movies seem to be about these days. never a story. or if there is one the story seems to be an afterthought, merely a commentary on the special effects or an accompanyment. effects used to be used sparingly and to enhance the story not the other way around.

I think the difference is that the Lucas that made that quote didn't have access to a computer that could let him put virtually anything on screen that he could imagine. He was stuck with the tools of the time that required more thought and imagination than just "Make the computer do it".

"Cheesy"! I love it! Looks like one of those inspirational pictures, too.

Among the many distressing things about the PT: that Lucas thought he was writing something good.

That Lucas had sixteen years to write the PT, and that was the best he came up with.

Who knew the Phantom Menace was going to be the best we got? And it has JarJar, midichlorians, podracing, and stereotyped aliens!

That's good. The ironic thing in all this is that we thought the PT was getting better, when indeed it was getting worse! It's like if Hollywood praised Coleman Francis and considered the Beast of Yucca Flats to be the one of the best films ever.(LOL) It's the exact smae thing with Lucas and the PT.
