John Williams BBC Documentary from 1980

This is spectacular. Someone needs to preserve this!

I love when Han says "I know" and John Williams laughs, and then Irvin Kirshner goes, "Yeah, what's he going to say, "I love you too?"

*laughter*

Wasn't Lucas' arguing to have him say "I love you too"? George doesn't look like a happy camper in this doc.

Great stuff!

Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side

Emperor Jar-Jar
“Back when we made Star Wars, we just couldn’t make Palpatine as evil as we intended. Now, thanks to the miracles of technology, it is finally possible. Finally, I’ve created the movies that I originally imagined.” -George Lucas on the 2007 Extra Extra Special HD-DVD Edition

I emailed the guy seeing if I could get it... I just want the audio to add to my complete Empire set... but if I get the full video, I'll let you all know.

I'd also like to re-pitch and slow it down as well so that it's no longer sped up and pitched up because of the PAL blah lol

Is it not sad that in this time, we are more surprised by acts of love than acts of hate?

Wow, that was sweet. The Star Wars films owe so much to the people involved in them. John Williams is a brilliant guy. I also didn't know about Herbert Spencer being his orchestrator (though it makes sense considering how Williams had no time to orchestrate everything himself). (I also loved that short little bit with Ben Burtt working his sound effect magic.) A very well done documentary.

i know, lol. That was really fun to see young Ben Burtt at work. He’s a lot less pompous- almost shy in this doc.

Thanks! This is a great documentary. I love the footage of ESB without the sound effects, dubbing and music. Very interesting. I'd love to have this on DVD.

It's been available on Demonoid for a few weeks now. (divx with a pretty good video quality)

Look here.

Han: Hey Lando! You kept your promise, right? Not a scratch?
Lando: Well, what’s left of her isn’t scratched. All the scratched parts got knocked off along the way.
Han (exasperated): Knocked off?!

I'd really like to add this to my ESB complete score edit as a special feature... but I don't have an account at demonoid... If someone who has it and is willing to invite me, I'd be most appreciative...

This is an amazing resource and would be great to add to the set.

what really cracked me up about this documentary is the as recorded on set dialogue before the adr process.

vader on the star destroyer being voiced by dave prowse, and peter mayhew improvising the wookiee growls, LOL

maybe jambe will do a building empire 2.0 someday, if that lost empire documentary by michael parbot ever gets sourced.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

Yeah, and Prowse was pissed that they used James Earl Jones' voice instead of his!
