2007 DVD repackage

I was looking at hmv and came across this:

Star Wars Trilogy 4DVD Special Packaging

Also the 2004 DVD's are appartently deleted (see see here)

The 2004 DVD's were dispointing, the 2005 DVd's were pointless, the 2006 DVD's were a joke and it seems the 2007 DVD's are a tired old joke you've been told you too many times.

I'm betting that they are rereleasing them in these "slimline" dvd cases that seem to be popular for releasing box sets now, just so the transport costs are less (as the boxes are half the size) and they can make more profit. Still there's alway a chance we may see some nice cover art for the original trilogy

edit:
it seems amazon also have it up for preorder here, release date 12 Nov 2007.

Well its not really that pointless. The original 2004 set has been out of print for a while now so this is a re-pressing. Probably new cover art, and as you said it might be likely that its in the new slimline cases that are becoming popular for sets. But I don't see this as milking anything really, unlike the 2005 version this is more or less just a re-pressing of the original release, probably for the holiday season since the original sets are getting hard to find. I don't get why they wouldn't package all six films together like this, or do a companion one for the PT, but I guess we should be thankful that there's not five different versions of the films sitting on store shelves.

Honestly I think Lucasfilm is foolish for not having a budget priced DVD six pack in stores right now.

Forget about the eventual box set we've all been promised. I'm only talking about a simple repackaging of the films we've already been given. Possibly sans extras. All the movies, one through six, all in one place. Consumers like convenience. And it would take almost zero effort to get something like this off the ground.

It could also be huge with the Wal-Mart crowd.

I agree, and this is a big trend in sales right now. All six films in six slimeline cases in a small carboard sleeve, with just the films and commentary tracks (in other words all the disk ones of the sets), priced for $19.99. Would make a good sales item for the holiday season. I would have thought Lucasfilm would jumped on that train but like I said i guess we should be glad they haven't.

Yes, but that would make SENSE.

I have heard from MillenniumFalcom.com that...

I was going to mention, it says 4 Discs....

for those of you who bought the set when it first came out, that 4th disc really wasn't much and what it was, was really a vehicle to show off a bit of some of the Episode III, Haydn in Vader suit features... plus the Episode III games...

Although it may simply be the same set again...

Is it not sad that in this time, we are more surprised by acts of love than acts of hate?

All of these rumors about LFL's new DVD is really starting to get ridiculous; make up your damn minds!

I know, I hate it too. I also wish LFL wasn't so damn secretive.

Well my guess is that its just going to be a repackaging of the 2004 DVDs. i doubt that we'll get to see any new stuff and deleted scenes until the trilogy gets released on either Bluray or HD-DVD so we'll all go out and buy those ones and then sales of HD players will rocket and it will all be down to Star Wars.

Don't forget that it isn't about the films or fans any more, it's all about the money.

Yes, that's what I thought; just repackaged the discs. But it still doesn't explain the endless rumors that keep flying around about releases. Really, how stupid would LFL have to be to ignore the 30th? Something here just doesn't make any sense.

Its just the 2004 DVD's re-released. The same thing is being released here in Australia:

Ezy DVD

Nothing new here folks by the looks of it.

if they have to re-release the 2004 why not fixed versions?

fix the bad mattes on the films, the incorrect mix on a new hope, and do some color correction.

there are bad garbage mattes in all three films.

george spent money on cgi jar jar for episode six. why not fix technical flaws that could by fixed with a pc and some software?

i won't buy any more dvd versions release the damn blu ray set corrected stupid lfl.

why we can get HD garbage mattes and wonky colors, LOL

I'm not necessarily saying that, I'm just saying that all of this seems really wierd.

I thougth the set in Austrailia compiled all 6 movies from each individual release (so it includes the oot). This will likely just be identical to the 2004 set. Which is totally pointless, the first box set is still readily available. How many times can Lucas release the same exactly identical stuff year after year? Does he really expect us to buy a movie just because it's in a stupid slim case? The 2005 set did not sell well and I hope this likewise collects dust on store shelfs. People need to send Lucasfilm a message that they will no longer buy a video just because it says Star Wars on the box.
If it had the bonus disc and used the 2 disc '06 sets with the 2004 versions corrected, then there would be at least some point to it. But Lucasfilm is way too lame for that, even someone who prefers the special editions and likes the prequels has to admit LFL has done a poor job with their SW video releases. Look at the upcoming Blade Runner and Close Encounters of the Third Kind sets.

If anyone cares, I was in my local DVD/music store the other day and the dude behind the desk and I got talking about re-releases of films blah blah blah.

Anyway, the subject of Star Wars came up and he showed me a poster for an upcoming October release of all 6 films, which I assumed to be a box set.

The poster had "30th Anniversary" at the top but didn't have any further info.

A repackage or new version? Wait and see I guess.

It must be a repackage, as a new version would make a lot of noise. I would say that the company is just repackaging the DVDs, but since Lucasfilm is the company, something's screwy.

Dude, we got postage stamps and R2-D2 mail boxes, R2-D2 remote control video projectors, and R2-D2 remote control webcams (appearently R2-D2 is the official character of the 30th aniversary). What else do you want?

Any chance you could go snap a pic of that poster?

I'm curious whether the poster mentioned above has 6 movies on it or merely six discs.

It will be original aspect ratio as:
1. No star wars film has been released in anything but 2.39:1 in the UK on DVD
2. Do you realy think Lucas film would put the effort into cropping the DVD?

Amazon have clearly made a mistake. Still they could have at least mentioned the aniversary.
