I’m still trying to get a hold of these. If anyone can help I’d be happy to cover costs via Paypal or send blanks & postage and I have quite a few DVD-R’s of films not available on DVD to trade either.

Thanks!

Hello All,

I'm new to this site and feel that I've awoken in a land of make believe where all my James Bond dreams are coming true. Rare editions of some of the best of the Bonds on LD transferred to DVD from fans who care deeply about the preservation of these much loved classic films. The Banned Criterion Bonds on DVD? Wow! A definitive version of Thunderball with extras? Truly Amazing! The complete, original Casino Royale on DVD? A Bond completist dream come true.

Forgive me of my ignorance as I have not had the patience to read all of this long thread before asking these questions - my impatience has gotten the better of me but can you blame me? Wow.

Who is responsible for creating these projects? Is it one fan or a collaborative effort of more? I would very much like to discuss some aspects of the Criterion Bonds with whoever they are.

Thanks a lot.

That would be me. *Waves Hand*

The "Thunderball" project is still in the color correction phase {And hogging up my hard drives}...
I've been working on some more extras for this DVD project in the interim. Such as an enhanced scenes section that has new Fan-made scenes from the move to give it a more modern edge with some new sound, new music mix. Also some new edits, cuts, and film speed changes.

UPDATE NEWS!!!

BANNED BOND: The Criterion Collection "FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE" to be updated with improved image and audio transfer, and will now include bonus isolated score and effects track (taken from "The Connery Collection" laser set).

This isolated score and effects track is not on my original "BANNED BOND" disc of "From Russia With Love" because it was not included on the recalled Criterion set.

No decision yet if we are going to update the "Dr. No" or "Goldfinger" video transfer. We have no new extras for those films, and see little point in re-releasing them now. We would like to get the "Thunderball" & "Star Trek" projects out before working on anything new. The video work for "From Russia With Love" has been done for some time. We just need to drop in the isolated score track, and beef up the menus for that title.

That´s a great work "restoring" these banned laserdiscs!! But, I just got a decent connection right now, and it looks like there´s no one to seed this... 8 weeks to finish download of Dr. No... ergh... Could someone seed this to a Bond freak? That would be much aprecciated!!!

FanFiltrarion, I have one question: The "color processing" that you are doing with Thunderball is the same process used in the Ultimate Edition, to make the contrast levels and colors "more realistic"?? It will get away from what Ted Moore did for the movie?? Or it will just enhance the original photography??

what about preserving the live and let die laserdisc that had the isolated soundtrack?

and possibly adding in the guns and roses version as an alternate, LOL

very much looking forward to your planet of the apes, your thunderball, and star trek projects. i loved your work on dune. and the banned bond set.

i love those old bond posters too bad i got my thunderball laserdisc more than 10 years to late to get the free send away theatrical anniversary poster for thunderball. i love the THX set too bad the image is cropped, the audio is better than the special edition dvd because it is not compressed.

i wish someone would preserve the dts tracks from the laserdiscs for Goldeneye, and Tomorrow never dies. the ones on the new sets are new mixes and not the theatrical dts mixes. plus the laser ones are full bitrate audio even if the image is letterboxed and not anamorphically stretched.

My Favorite Bond film is From Russia with Love. cannot wait for your version 2.

Does anyone know what the director's and cinematographers intentions were and were these followed by Lowry During restoration?

As far as i know the only approved versions by the director were the criterion versions.

The Director of Dr. No., From Russia with Love, and Thunderball long since dead. i always hated the added blue tinge in the films lowry/now dts restores, very bad in the pal version of from russia with love. in the ntsc version not as noticeable but still there.

Definitely not. The movies have been "updated" to mordern audiencies. That means that a lot of contrast levels and coloros were "corrected" to look "real", wich gets rid with the original intentions of the cinematographers. The sound effects have been updated as well, like the gun shots and explosions. Ted Moore's characteristic photography consisted in very saturated coloros, wich was not the case on some Ultimate Editions. And, some scenes are really messed up, with some bad errors, like when Thunderball: The scene when Quist is thrown in the pool, there's a shot of the water becoming red with his blood On the first releases of the UE, the "red" have been removed, due a misinterpretation of the software responsible for "color correction". And so on the other editions. The most surprising edition is Goldeneye, wich became worse with the remastering: the picture were cropped and the image is very dark. But, the remastering work of the first four movies were great.

I have some videos with some comparision shots between the Special Editions and Ultimate Editions, if it's not forbidden to post, I give the link:

So the special editions of Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger etc are better than the Ultimate Editions in terms of original color and audio?

BTW, do you still need a seed for Dr. No? You need a seed for the other 2 also?

DN, FRWL, GF and TB are the most improved of all, especially because they are cropped correctly, showing the true aspect ratio of the movie, and showing more detail. The colors and contrast levels were just improved, with no noticeable changes at all. For the other movies, that depends of the viewer. In my case, some changes were hard to understand, like the colors in You Only Live Twice, wich were muted for most of the picture, ruining the photography of Freddie Young. It's a kind of mixed bag, really. Some movies became great (DN, FRWL, GF, MR, just for a example), other became great but with some questionable changes (OHMSS is the only on my head right now, but there are others), and others are just "good" going down to "crap" (Pierce Brosnan's Movies). The Roger Moore's films in the 80's have been photographed by Alan Hume, and had, on previous editions, a high level of brightness on the picture. I don't know it was intentional, but it was "corrected" on the UEs. I liked this "correction", but I think that someone on this world didn't. Like I said, that just depends of the viewer: If he watched the previous editions, and if he prefers "reality" to "preservation".

I have the coverage and review of the Ultimate Editions by the 007 magazine, if I wasn't clear enough (due to my bad english, I believe ) . If you want it, just send me a PM.

About the seeds, yes, I need, because there are one guy seeding the torrents, but another guy and me are getting download rates at 0.4 KB/s. If you could seed this, I would be very glad. But, I am just downloading Dr. No, because my HD is full, and can´ t afford more 4 GB right now. By the time I (hope) finish the download, I will clean my HD from some stupid things that I have here and continue seeding, and start on the next movie (wich I think is gonna be GF, because I am waiting for the new edition of FRWL by Fanfiltration!). If you could help us with the torrent, I will be most glad!!
