Those covers are awesome!

The thing is though, I love the front cover for the second one, but I kinda like the back cover of the first one better. What's a guy to do?

Hey Infodroid,
Like the other trailers that was thrilling, your music choices are simply amazing. Are they songs simply for the trailers or will they be found in reborn as well? Im hoping this new buzz of activity spells a nearby release.
Good luck finishing up.

There will definitely be music changes in the edit itself.

The tracks I used were geared toward the trailers specifically, but they convey the tone and feeling we're aiming for with these edits. The music in the movie will be very much in the same vein.

Great Stuff, ID.

The ESB trailer is still my favorite, though.

I'm curious, what are the visual transitions between the OT and the PT? Are they fades, flashes, wipes, or is that still being determined?

Outstanding trailer!

I haven't been this excited about a fan project in a very long time.

This 'non-project' along with Ady's revisit are probably my two most anticipated edits right now, along with Jambe's new Star Wars documentary. I look forward to seeing its eventual 'non-release'!

Hey, CC... Thanks. ESB is still my favorite too. Those two storylines just fit together so perfectly.

The transitions are going to be a mixture of fades, flashes and some brief fades to black...depending on what's appropriate for the scene. We're using transitions like a curtain on the stage. In some cases, a brief fade to black is what you need to sort of "cleanse your mental palette". In other cases, like the nightmare sequence, a flash will have a greater, more exciting impact. And in yet another case, fading from a shot of a person remembering back to the moment in time they're thinking of can have a lot of impact as well. So, it'll just depend on the circumstances.

Wipes will be limited to inter-timeframe transitions...if that makes any sense. We're talking temporal mechanics here. Haha... In other words, a wipe from an AOTC scene to another AOTC scene is fine...but wiping from AOTC to ANH or vice-versa is not fine. IMO, it's just too quick of a transition for a viewer to be able to hit the mental reset button. I think you'll probably agree.

Thanks to everyone else for all of your nice comments.

When I watch that trailer it makes me realize how badly Lucas messed up. The PT should have been darker in tone than the OT. It should have had more fighting. The Rpublic should have been in a high state of decay. The senate should have been fighting itself, and full of corruption and betrayels. The Jedi should have been in decay, and losing its original ideas of what was good. This being the reason why the Emperor was easy to whipe the Order out. I wish the PT would have been more like how the roman empire was. Full of death betrayel, and corruption. The way you did the 20th Century Fox Logo and the music really gives me an epic feel, and makes me wish the PT had been filmed as an epic. The music in the PT is something I have a problem with also. JW did a good job, but I wanted something different from the OT fanasty style. I wanted epic war music, and music that has an ancient sound to it. Like the music you used in your trailer. Glad to hear you are chnging some music.

That's what all of us were expecting, Marvolo....Because for years Lucas was saying how the Prequels were going to be so much darker than the originals and all about betrayal and so forth...and how no one was going to like them because they were gonna be so dark...

He got the "no one liking them" part right.

Even the first two Harry Potter films had a darker tone than any of the Prequels. It's a shame.

We're gonna do everything we can, working within the limitations of the material we have, to give it that epic feel it always should have had...That's our goal anyway.

Yeah. Lucas really messed up for me purely on what the Old Republic should have looked like. I always imagined far more stone, less metal - I thought this was supposed to be an "old republic." The Senate looks like freakin' Futurama.

That would have been neat, andy, to have more stone in the old republic, when the empire took over they industrialized everything and replaced the stone with metal.

That's actually what I always imagined when I thought about what the Prequels would be like back in the day. I envisioned like, Medieval times...the crusades with lightsabers. I thought the Empire were the ones who represented and relied on technology and all that. Obi-Wan described a time of civility...of chivalry. What happened to that?

InfoDroid, I was reading some of your comments on the FanEddit.org boards and you said:

@ss4johnny: I've seen Attack of the Phantom, and in my opinion, it's the best fan-edited handling of the love story yet...however I don't think it goes far enough.

I think it's absolutely right in implying that Anakin & Padme started a physical relationship at that point. It just seems right for the characters when you see how they behave later in the story. The whole on-again/off-again thing was totally implausible. I mean, these two need to be Tristan & Isolde, Romeo & Juliet, Adam & Eve in space...insanely in love with each other from the start. The drama lies in the fact that it's forbidden love...they're sinning...eating of the fruit...whatever you want to call it. And in the end they pay the ultimate price for trying to keep it a secret.

They are kept apart because of their situation...because of circumstances...because of Jedi dogma and the politics of the galaxy. Not because Padme is creeped out by him and "uncomfortable"...blah blah blah...

You throw the hesitation in there and it just doesn't work at all. And it's unfortunate it was handled this way by Lucas because the love story is the key to Anakin's ultimate fall. It's his intense, passionate love for Padme that drives him to turn to the Dark Side.

That's why in Reborn, we're taking it a step further and using elements from other films (like Hayden's love scene with Sienna Miller in Factory Girl and others), we've actually created a love scene that didn't exist...the kiss on the balcony is no longer interrupted by Padme's hesitation...instead, it deepens and leads to a scene that does a lot more than imply that they may have slept together. Don't worry, nothing too explicit... Might be a little PG-13 (but less explicit than Titanic).

What if you cut out the part in the elvator where Anikan says "I haven't seen her in 10 years", and then make their awkardness around each other in the next apartment scene come across like they have been seeing each other for a while and now that they are together in front of a jedi and it is Obi-Wan it is kind of uncomfortable for them. This is something that really happens. Two people hook up and don't tell their parents then when the two people are together around the parents it is extremely awkard.

This would also make the audience then realize that their might already be something between these two, and they don't want the jedi to know. This could imply that they are already together, and possibly physical.

Then later that night when Anikan is talking to Obi-Wan about Padme, and Obi-Wan says "You took an oath, an oath not easily broken" in the apartment the audience would then think "Oh, that is why it was so awkard for them."

Then later with the new love scene you created it would let the audience know that yes they are physical, and it would seem more natural because you know they have been together for a while before the start of the film.

Hope what I am trying to explain makes sense.

I'm pretty sure the elevator scene didn't make our final cut. I don't have the latest .veg from ID to verify, but I don't remember seeing it in the last one.

I've been busy working on the Dolby Digital 5.1 mix for the prologue, so ID will have to verify which scenes are in and in what order they appear.

Yeah, the elevator scene is gone...as is that whole Jar-Jar infused "welcome" scene. If any the actors got any stiffer in that scene, they'd be dead. After watching it over and over again, trying different cuts, I finally realized there's nothing redeeming about that scene at all. It's just talking heads...over-explaining things we either already know or don't need to know. Just for the record...we're downplaying a lot of the Anakin/Obi-Wan rivalry...and it seems like that's the whole point that scene was created to convey. The point is, they should be friends. Heightens the drama in ROTS when he finally turns. Makes it more tragic. Another one of Lucas' mistakes. If Anakin hates Obi-Wan all along...then who cares when they battle it out at the end?

From Jar-Jar to the Anakin/Obi-Wan rivalry to Padme's absolutely wooden dialogue... There's nothing of value in that scene at all, IMO. So my solution was to just ditch it. Now we transition from Mace saying "I'll have Obi-Wan report to you immediately, M'Lady" to an exterior of Padme's apartment at night (stolen from ROTS). And then "You look tired..."

From there, everything we need to know is explained and it excises things like "I don't think she liked me watching her."

I am having trouble watching the downloaded (avi) versions of the trailers. I've seen them on youtube, but can't watch it on my computer. Windows Media Player plays the sound, but not the video. Do I need a specific codec or player?

Yeah, I think you need the XVID codec. It's free.

I keep forgetting that with a new computer, I have to download all the codecs I used to have all over again.

Thanks, ID.

my favorite is the trailer for jedi which you made, i could not watch empire since for some reason it skips and slows of youtube.

star wars was the least favorite of all the trailers i watched, maybe because too much prequel footage or because i hate episode 1 and 2 and can actually tolerate portions of rots, who knows, LOL

i will say my favorite star wars movie is of course star wars 77 or episode IV for the latecomers.

Empire is heads above all three films a much more epic and adult film though less fun than star wars and jedi in some parts, but it does actually make you think like good movies should.

jedi is the worst of all three movies even though it was my fave as a kid some parts are just rediculous to me like han solo's character pretty much standing around and being useless the whole time to the story. the motifs which seem to developed upon the best is the story of luke, though could have been done better. the worst and most irritating things are the ewoks this is star wars not care bears, LOL

of all the prequels i felt episode one could have been done better if it was much more expanded and anakin's character is developed. you jump from episode one to II without seeing him grow up and mature you don't know what happens to him at least 10 years worth of what happened in the story goes unexplained. i do not take the clone wars cartoon, bad videogames, or novels or comics as the caanon version of what happened since it is not lucas story. as for episodes II and III i always felt both films could be edited into a single 3 hours plus movie.

Greetings all. This looks to be a very interesting project. So cool, in fact, that its the first one to prompt me to write in.

You really make the prequels (that have always just kind of depressed me) a worthy part of the SAGA.

I do have a question tho.

The Jedi trailer says that you are going to keep the surprises of the OT. I was curious how you were going to keep audience from knowing that annoying little green guy in the "slimy mudhole" is a jedi master. I know its not a MAJOR surprise, but plenty of characters mention Yoda in EpI and II and how great he is. It'd really build up the excitement to finally SEE this character and then surprise when he's so small.

Of course, I dont know what that would do to all your scenes where Yoda would appear in Star Wars:Reborn. (Especially with the showdown with Dooku). So maybe it cant work for this edit. Sigh.

Just an idea.

Cant wait to see your "non-project."
