A new restoration of parts I and II has been finished by Robert A. Harris for Paramount (with financial help from Steven Spielberg): http://hollywood-elsewhere.com/archives/2007/08/godfather_resto.php

Perhaps they'll have all the extra footage cleaned up while they're at it.
