Connect these dots and the Universal issue and source of kickbacks may become crystal clear:
1) Universal and NBC are the same company (they have been since 2004).
2) NBC and Microsoft have been in bed together since the formation of MSNBC in the 90s.
3) Microsoft has been a major supporter of the HD-DVD format for its own, non-movie-related reasons.
