First of all, I hate not being able to edit my blank posts...That is what I get for entering my username and password first and then hitting enter instead of tab...

Next, the trailer is awesome. I showed it to my wife and she loved it as well...that is a testament to it's greatness.

I am thinking that after the edit comes out, that will be the one that I will allow my children to grow up watching.

The Force is definitely with you!!!

Oh that was so cool. I have one little tiny suggestion though. The only part I found a bit jarring at all (and this may be because it was edited for the trailer) was when Obi-Wan ignites his lightsaber in the upright position and in the next shot he's holding it more paralell to the ground. I think that if you added a lightsaber motion whur sound off screen in between these shots (during the vader shot) it would feel like he moved the saber when we weren't looking. Just a thought. It was so cool, very well done.

Great stuff... the DS battle sequence looks intense. The only constructive crit I have is the tie attack (the one with cloned ties on the left and right) seems a little too symetrical... maybe subtract a few ties at random? ... Or have them attack in a wedge formation rather than a wall o' ties? Just my $0.02. Congrats on the video card

Unfortunately, Wookie Groomer, the HD versions available when i started this project weren't the best of quality so it will be standard DVD def only. I am using the better quality HD footage for all the latest FX work on the Death Star battle because it retains a lot ore detail when resized to 720 x 576 than the original DVd version. Also the edit so far has filled up 5 hard drives so if i had worked with the HD footage for everything i would have run out of space within the first couple of weeks. lol. It would ahve been ideal but too much work has already been completed to do a HD version, sorry.

Some good news now though. the funds finally went through with paypal so i got the final drive needed today. Went to my local Pc shop and purchased a 500Gb SATA-II drive so i now have enough space to finish the edit. a major big thanks to you guys. But thats not all. i can't believe my luck today. The store is running a promotional give-away prize draw thingy. because i spent over £60 i could chose 2 of the numbers they have printed on this board with the chance to win a prize. Well for some reason i chose 11 & 38 ( i wonder why) and i won with 38. I was expecting some sort of t-shirt or mug but no.... a bloody brand new ATI PCI-E X1950 pro graphics card. I have to admit i never liked the ATI cards and have always been a Nvidia man myself but this thing rocks( more so because it was free) . If i had been buying a new card (which i didn't need because mine wasn't that old and still did everything i needed it to anyway) i wouldn't have gone for an ATI but this changed my mind. I guess i'm still buzzing at the fact that i chose 1138 and won. Maybe its karma. lol

anyway i was going to have a well earned week long break away from the edit but now i'm buzzing too much i just want to work my ass off and get this out there.

thanks again guys

As in cell 1138? =p

I'd rather have a wall of TIEs than a paltry four or five. Heck, the five in the original film are basically cloned optical elements anyway. To me, it feels like the same shot with a lot more impact, but I can see where some people would see it differently. Personally, I'm down with it.

ady, love the new final battle bits to the trailer. some of the background stuff is really subtle, lik when red leader is talking and its going hell to breakfast behind him.

would it be possible to shunt over your hyperspace tunnel??

both of them? that's something I've having real trouble getting sorted but I now have access to a film quality millennium falcon mesh from a guy in the industry (he works on battlestar) so it means I can redo the shot of the falcon in the tunnel, going away from the camera as per the film, but with a properly tracked engine glow etc.

that would be much appreciated.

props, ady, the standard is high as always and impressive; most impressive.

Perhaps the timing could be altered, just slightly, so they're not all so perfectly in sync?

I'm in agreement. It's the only thing that seems to stand out.

I agree the shot of the ties stands out. I think if they moved somewhat seperately, and not all in sync it would help.

Maybe if a few on the edge were to veer off a little? - That said I am happy with the shot. it made me grin like no other at the sight of all those ties.
- And I'm assuming that the moment for making those sorts of adjustments has probably passed.

Yeah! I mean why would properly trained pilots be flying in perfect formation anyway???

I think the shot looks awesome.

I vote to leave it as is regarding the TIE formation. I mean, they are supposed to be highly trained...Even possibly think more alike if they are the clones.

Good point about the Blue Angels...Love that pic.

Hey, quick question. Has there been a lot of tinkering with the length of shots? Because when this is finished it would be cool to splice in the commentary track from the 2004 DVD, then it would be the only ANH DVD I would need.

subtle always works best... I think the shot looks great...but it would be kinda cool if they were slightly different however...

I mean... look how many X-wings they start out with... and such... these guys can't be TOO good can they?
the rest looks amazing... but I do agree when I saw that shot, it looks too... cut/paste to me although I'm sure it is not at all...

If you don't change it, it would be one small detail of an otherwise amazing edit.

Is it not sad that in this time, we are more surprised by acts of love than acts of hate?

I understand that trained pilots would fly in formation in a show. However this is combat, and they would break off from each other upon entering the fight. Staying together would create a bigger target to aim at. They would not stick together like that. Also, the effect isn't that convincing. No offense Adywan, because all your sfx look great, but this looks like you copy and pasted a tie fighter to make it like there is more than there originally was. It sticks out.

As Marvalo points out, the Blue Angels are NOT an example of combat flight formations. They're doing extremely dangerous tricks, and they're some of the best pilots in the world. Most pilots are not capable of that kind of precision, and no pilot could maintain that precision while under fire.

Sounds great, Adywan.

Just saw the trailer. At the risk of making this thread sound a little monotonous, I just wanted to join the chorus and say it looks terrific Adywan! You've done an amazing job, and like everyone else I can't wait to see this edit in its completion.

Guys, we don't want him to do too many redos or he'll never finish it.

What you've done ady is a great tribute to SW and fan edits in general. You've remained true to the source material while also filling in some gaps, correcting inconsitencies and enhancing the visual scope of the film.

This is the ultimate "special" edition by far.

Great job!

God almighty, Adywan, that trailer kicked ass big time! November can't come soon enough, of course since I live in the USA I suppose all us Yanks may have to wait a little longer to get the NTSC version. The colors, the sound it all looked flawless. I especially loved the new scene of the Death Star and Star Detroyers orbiting that rocky grey planet. The TIEs at the Battle of Yavin did look a little too in sync. If you can make it look more natural that's great, if not don't sweat it, Adywan, you're still doing a great job. I don't even have the final copy of ANH in may hands and I'm already geeked for you to work your magic on the ESB & ROTJ. You're the best thing to happen to Star Wars in a very long time, Adywan, god speed friend.

Hey Adywan, that trailer was rather amazing, I just had a couple thoughts though. I was unsure as to your intent with the edit, It seemed from the start that you were attempting to just fix the flaws that arose due to the LF treatment of the 2004 DVD's and add some seamless enhancements to the film. After watching this last trailer it feels you have pulled all the stops and went in a new direction changing the feel of the film as the 97 Special Editions did. Im not saying that in a bad way I just didnt expect some of the changes to be so drastic. Are you now trying to create a whole new feel to the movie or was it just getting caught up in visualizing how much better a certain scene would become with "X" being inserted/added/redone? Again Im not trying to criticize I was just wondering what your thoughts were behind the big picture. I hope it doesnt seem like Im trying to attack you cause thats not my intention at all, I am anticipating your release far more than anything planned by LF (if at all).
