Oh the ol' "My Money My Film" line! Well played!

It doesn't make it our film, but I think you're missing what people are saying; without the money from the fans, Star Wars wouldn't be a franchise of anything else; it'd be one film rotting on a shelf somewhere. So, in a sense, the fans are the funding for almost all of the releases since 77. So if it hadn't been for OUR money, Lucas would be ABLE to alter "HIS" film. Does that make it our film? Hell no. I think the fans have a legitimate complaint though. Think of it this way: what if Michael Curtiz were still alive and said that a colorized Casablanca with with CG additions was his only vision, and refused to release the original version. The original version does not "belong" to the millions of filmgoes who've seen Casablanca over the years, but I think that they would be within their rights to want it to get a release that it deserved. There's a very, very simple solution here: give the OOT a high-quality release. That's it. That would solve ALL of the problems. ALL of them. I'd watch the version I want in anamorphic HD (as long as other formats got the release down the road), and Lucas could to whatever the hell else he wanted and everyone would be happy. But he won't. All that people want is a high-quality release of the OOT. That doesn't make it our film. That doesn't mean that anyone is denying George "his" vision. We just want to watch the original versions in a release that meets the standards of the formats today. That's all. THAT is why the this is all still going on. It's not OUR film. I have never claimed it to be. But with a simple release of the original version in high quality, the whole problem could be solved. Why is that so hard to understand?
