Hello, new to this site, but I am enjoying it. It seems to me that at this point George Lucas could partially redeem himself by putting out a 70 M.M. , 1977 original print of SW, warts and all for the 30TH aniversary. IMAX-6track dolby2.0. Run it for a year. I'd love it

I am looking more forward to this, than anything Lucas is gonna do for the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars.....

What if he released the OOT that year?

Well yes, that would be different case completly, Im happy with the great discs the great editors and preservation people turn out here, so I have no real interest in the "Archival" set other than the extras if they include things like the deleted scenes etc but i am not parting with my cash just for the extras. and seeing the films in 3-D doesnt appeal to me, i may have wanted to make the effort if they were shown normally not in 3-D

I still don't know if I'd buy it if it only came as a 6-movie super special edition pack. I don't want to buy the prequels again, and I don't want to own his next revised vision. If he would just release the bare bones original original trilogy (kinda like what he did a couple of months ago with the special editions), that I would buy. But I don't want to have to shovel his crap just so I can get what I want.

And welcome to the boards, wingman.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

I am definately, no doubt, getting the 2007 archival box set! Hell, I'll probably get two copies: one to watch, and one to collect. I truly believe it will be his final versions of all films that will satisfy his vision.

why do you think it will be the final version?

Because I just do. I think he'll fix everything and get everything exactly as he wants it this time. And if he does... I will be EXTREMELY happy. I think he's taking the time right now to fix all those things. I mean, from the release of ROTS last year to the 30th anniversary of SW, he will have had exactly two years to fix everything he wants fixed.

I wouldnt mind out of curiosity one day seeing his final versions, but not shelling out for a boxset just to see it once, I would probably just hire them from the video shop or wait til it comes on TV..

Well, he certainly didn't take his time to get everything right with the previous two re-releases, and that alone keeps me from caring about his future efforts. If it takes that many tries to get it "right", either he sucks at what he's doing, he has no idea what he's doing, or he's just doing half-ass jobs to be able to keep re-releasing.

I understand a preview of this was shown at Celebration IV, but I didn't go.

Now when I go the 5-25-77 website, all the content that used to be there is gone.

Does anyone know anything new about this movie? When it's coming out? What was shown at Celebration IV?

Thanks!

I'd definitely go see that! LOL! But, really, it's sad.

They showed the entire movie at C4. It was the latest rough cut with unfinished special effects, but complete for the most part. I really enjoyed it.

Basically, the movie is about a high school kid from a small town in Illinois who gets the chance of a lifetime when he flies out to Hollywood to meet the special effects supervisor from the movie 2001. When he gets there, the guy isn't available but he ends up on the set of Close Encounters and gets to meet the then-unknown Steven Spielberg. (The actor playing the young Spielberg is such a great look-a-like btw.) He then gets to tour ILM and, as luck would have it, happens to be there to see a preview of an unfinished version of Star Wars (no soundtrack, no special effects). He goes back to school and tries to get all his friends to go see Star Wars on opening day.

Overall I thought the movie was very entertaining. It's not so much about Star Wars as it is about a young aspiring filmmaker whose perspective on life changed after seeing a weird sci-fi movie. The film is based on the true story of Patrick Read Johnson (writer/director) who saw the rough cut of Star Wars and ended up moving out to California and joining ILM as a model maker after he graduated high school.

It was kind of fitting to see this movie at C4 in its unfinished form, as Johnson pointed out at the panel. I don't think anyone expected they would be showing the whole movie either. It was a welcome surprise.

SFX supervisor Mike Pawlak posted on IMDB that, "'5-25-77' is still in post production with visual effects and final sound mixing being worked on....A release later this year is planned."

I'm looking forward to seeing this in the theater when it's finally released.

What a hack Kurtz turned into... from SW to a geek version of American Pie. Sad to see him picking up GL crumbs.
"Among many things I have to be thankful for are you, the fans. I know that some of you haven't liked every single thing that I've done with the saga, and that you have a strong sense of ownership over all things Star Wars. But take that passion and devotion and channel it into a creative project of your own."

Watching the trailer made me realize how good amateur moviemakers have it today in terms of actually getting their stuff seen by a lot of people. Really looking forward to this!

I saw this a C4 too and I got to say I was really impressed because Johnson seemed to really capture the look and feel of the late 70's and what it was like in that summer. I thought the cat did a fine job and will be sure o see it when the finished product comes to the theaters.
There's good in the Original Trilogy, and it's worth fighting for.
