It's The Sun so don't expect much. We have a PROBLEM: 4chan is NOT in the news and Gaiafags are.

I am amazed that people are still trying to believe this is not real. The Sun is not the only place where this poped up in the news. The fact that so many of the torrent link to this are dead is pretty good evidence to its authenticity as well. Also that is one hell of an impressibe fake if it is one. If it is a fake, then this guy ought to be a published writer, he is at least as good as Rowling (thats not saying much though).

Canada.com reported on this a couple days ago. The guy who did is apparently named Alex Ng, and lives in B.C. He gave a link to his own Facebook profile to the author of the story.

LOL

Edit: excuse me, as I had the info wrong. It was a story about a guy who was supposedly one of the first people who found the files online.

They were talking about this on the radio [in Oz] this morning. they were saying that the publishers refuse to state whether this is an actual leak, or a major hoax. They didn't reveal any names and all the other info is basically what we've already been hearing [how it appeared online.]

This is why I am starting to think its real. If it was a hoax, even of the quality they have obviously turned out, they would of said so, or ignored it. But they are "refusing to confirm or deny", then turn around and start shutting down everything that has it up. I just don't see them going to all that trouble for a hoax.

I read something earlier today on Google News. Essentially, they're trying to track down the source of the leak. The British publishing agency is pissed off at the American publishing agency since it appears to have leaked in the US. Apparently there was so much secrecy around this book that it should've been impossible for anyone to do this. I hope whoever did this is enjoying their freedom. They're going to be in a lot of trouble if/when they get caught.

This leak happened because Scholastic said libraries were allowed to open the boxes and catalogue the books before the release date. So the ones getting in trouble should be the idiots at Scholastic who made that descision.

And Bloomsbury or Scholastic can't really charge the person who leaked it with copyright infringement like they want to, because the person who leaked it only posted pictures of the book on the internet. You have to scan the book, or type the book out and make it available as an ebook for it to be copyright infringement. It is not illegal to take low quality images of abook and post them on the internet. Since he did not reproduce the book in any form he can not be charged. And if he did not sign the contract saying he would not leak the book then he can not be charged. If he has a good enough lawyer he should avoid jail time.

All the money wasted on this book's security could have been been sent to Darfur or sent to the family of the Madison kid ( I think that is her name) who went missing. Maybe now the publishers will learn, as long as the internet is around there will be leaks of everthing.

How is it that he did not reproduce the book in any form??? The book was very much reproduced. What he did was completely illegal. Low quality images has nothing to do with anything, it is still reproduced. Where did you come up with this technicallity between scanning and photographing? They are essentially the same thing. This is like saying that filming a movie in the cinema is not piracy and is perfectly legal because it is merely a low quality taping of a film and not an actual reproduction of the DVD or a screener.

That's pretty fucked up. It would be funny if they just made fun of wrestling and roid rage, but the moment the put the shit in there about his wife and kid, that's when it got sick.

As long as other things are in the image you can't be charged, I looked it up. A couple years back they tried to copyright any photos taken of the eifel tower. They were trying to make it so any photos taken of the eifel tower could not be posted publicly because the eifel tower image is trademarked. The courts said they couldn't stop people publishing their photos as long as other objects were in the image or background. This is because the person could say he was taking a picture of something else and the eifel tower was in the shot but he took the shot anyway. The person who took these pictures can argue the same logic, such as, " I was taking a picture of my hand at different angles when turning pages to visually determin the stress on joints and how the muscles in my hand would flex, since this was the book I had at the time it became part of the experiment." Also, the person who originally posted all the images didn't title them in any specific way so his intentions may not have been the reproduction of the book. If a lawyer will argue a case of someone suing McDonalds for making them fat and win, then this kid could win his case. Also, Scolastic is the one who said libraries could open the boxes early, that is their own stupid mistake.

i think J.K. Rowling did a very brave thing by having a happy ending because all of the negative backlash and flak she is going to get over it.

still i wonder that in a post 911 world people can except the good guys winning and happy endings.

The cynics in the media, namely adults who were routing for harry to be killed and the craze die out are morons.

I have not read the whole book yet, still i must congratulate her on her choice. I refuse to buy any more Legacy of the Force books because they killed Mara Jade Skywalker, and then the darker yet crappier trilogy of prequels where there is no real hero.

I'm pretty sure that case was unique in that the Eiffel tower is a public landmark. I'm also pretty sure that a judge would laugh in your face for even attempting a defense like that. So you had to flip through nearly 800 pages to determine how your joints moved and then instead of posting it somewhere like myspace or facebook, you put it up in a torrent that clearly is related to Harry Potter and not images of joints moving? HAHAHAHAHAHA. GUILTY!

This guys intentions are very clear and I'll be surprised if he isn't prosecuted. You may think your defense will work, but a judge isn't going to think so (I don't think even you think it'll work, sounds more like a devil's advocate argument). This is definitely a copyright violation.

yep, they should throw the book at him quite literary.

Authors has a right to receive compensation for there work, and have such works protected under international copywrite laws.

I hope he gets the same treatment that the bastard who posted Tolkien's children of hurin scanned online, will eventually get from manches and co.
