ST3K... happy to see you back finally.

However, didn't I already cover your presence in this thread at the very beginning? If you don't like it, don't come here to diss it. This is for people who appreciate HP and want to discuss it rationally without dealing with people's BS.

ST3K, we're not trying to be jackasses and kick you out or anything. We just want this to stay respectful of the series and be a place for fans. If you have constructive or (God forbid) positive things to say about HP, then do so. Just don't go slamming the series when you have yet to finish a book or watch an entire movie (you were only partway through either, right?) in order to make an informed decision.

I am so looking forward to seeing Oldman as Sirius Black. He is such an incredible actor. I can only think of one villain that I like better than his role in Leon (The Professional)... The Big Man in Black himself, Lord Vader. Oldman can do it all.

Well, okay, maybe there are a few others I like more, but Oldman was so over the top in that film. It was beautiful. And to see how his character would develop when book 5 is released as a movie. Wow.

I have not tried watching a movie, but you are right, I have not finished a HP book. Maybe the endings r good, I dunno. I just can not get into the whole storyline itself, at least not like I can w/ SW or such. Don't worry about booting me from a thread, I know I wouldn't be happy if someone came in and started talking crap about something I liked (like I wasn't w/ darebear & the PT-OT connection) I'll leave now.

Sorry Im a lazy shit, so all I've read on this post is Startroopers.....

But....

I've read the fist 3 HP books, was reading 4 but got fed up....

But compared to the pile of shit that was the first 2 films...Man...I'm from the UK and so I'm a little embarressd(sp?) by some of the worst fucking acting I've ever seen....Man, some of the little shit kid actors are so fucking bad...Straight out of Childrens afternoon TV..CBBC..and all that shit...The books are very very good!! Really enjoyed them...Read the whole of the 2nd book while sunnung myself on one of the Canarie Islands a few years back...Better than talking to the stupid pain in the arse that was my bird at the time!!

3 was a good book, so heres hoping the film will a better effort than the the last 2!!

There.....Thats me done!!!

Ahhh!! Read from page 1.
Now i did'nt say I didn't like the film, my point is, I'm from the UK, England, and when I hear English acsents in films it sounds shit. Sometimes. Especially with bad acting. Now I don't know how it sounds to a Yank or an Ausie, or whatever..But to me it sounds shit!

I like the books though, really liked them..

I'm hoping I'll like HP3 a lot more than I do the other two, thats all!

No prob Hot Rod. You can sit in here and discuss just the books if you so desire. I can see where you're coming from regarding the accents. Not that I know from firsthand experience (me being a Yank and all). But I hear bastardized US accents from foreign actors. It's kinda funny sometimes.

Funny side note: My friend had a theory one time that the only real difference between US and UK/AUS accents is caused by the degree to which people open their mouths. When you watch a Brit actor, their mouth doesn't open nearly as much as a US actor. When I try to fake a Brit accent, I even notice my mouth doesn't open as much. That's why, when you hear a Brit/Aussie singer perform, you rarely can notice their accent. They sound more like a USian. Because when you sing, you really open your mouth and belt it all out.

This might also be a more literal reason why the world views the US as a bunch of raving bigmouths as well.

It's partly that, and it's partly pronunciation. My parents gew up in Surrey, and what mildly irritated me about the HP films was that the kids would pronounce either and neither in the American fashion (ee-thur and nee-thur) rather than the English one (eye-thur and nye-thur). This might have been at the insistence of American dialogue coaches or the director; I don't know.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

But would they really have an American dialect coach working with an all-Brit cast?

Quite likely, given that the US would be considered the largest market for the films; that, and the fact that the director is American.

weird, cause in Canada we say eye-ther and nye-thur. I had no idea people pronounced it the other way.

But they're trying to keep this as true to the Brit source material as possible. Hence the casting of all non-USians.

I actually say either and neither both ways. It all depends on what string of words precedes it. Depending on the inflection that comes on the words before, I could say it "eethur/neethur" or "eyethur/neythur". I'm weird like that.

What I don't get is that all the actors in Harry Potter ARE british, so how can their accents be fake???

That's what kinda blows my mind, too. I see them looking at a dialect coach and laughing.
