yeah except this tird of a movie has very little to do with the great greak epic/tradgedy of the iliad by the great bard homer.

the movie is so bad that one could not even reconstruct the original by homer even with a fan edit.

the fact that they cast brad pitt as achilles shows just how out of touch with the original material they are, achilles was a tragic hero with depth to his character not a greek era rambo.

the even funnier thing is wolfgang peterson was once thought of as a great director, then he produces shit like this.

das boot and neverending story are good movies, perfect storm and troy complete and utter pieces of crap.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

Troy - Director's Cut DVD is finally available !!!!!!

Is it good ?

According to a friend of mine, the director's shooting script pages are interesting, containing shot lists, notes about deleted scenes, and so on.

And the additional footage and new score gives the movie a grander scope and serious gravitas. The colors are richer. There are additional scenes that give you a better insight into the Paris and Helen relationship as well as scenes that give more depth to Odysseus and Priam...

The directors cut isn't bad. It's a great improvement, most of the new scenes add charactor and the pace is different and better, less jerky editing. It should also be noted as an interesting side note that this cut (unlike other 'director's cut) is in a way a fan edit, by the director. Firstly, unlike a film like Blade Runner or Kingdom Of Heaven, where a different kind of film was invisioned then what was released, Peterson went back and changes the style and tone after the fact. The second case bieng that in some cases sountracks from other films is used, for example during the fight with Pitt and Bana, The Danny Elfmen Theme to Planet of the Apes is used.

Zombie84, did you ever see the directors cut? I personally loved it (and have never seen the theatrical version). I'd be interested to know what you think of the revised film.

The writer of Kingdom of Heaven self-proclaimed the magnificent directors cut to be the most historically accurate movie ever made. I think i might agree with him.

I guess considering Hollywood, that may not be saying much! (I've only seen the Theatrical version, and there are a lot of serious errors and anachronisms there). The whole thing comes off as a modern political allegory.

Good luck with your fan edit though! I haven't seen "Troy" (or "Alexander" or a lot of these modern historical epics). I saw the theatrical versions of Gladiator and KOH, though.
