Excerpt from the latest SW.com Newsletter:

Ian McDiarmid at Celebration Europe!
Tony Award-winning actor Ian McDiarmid, whose iconic portrayal of Senator Palpatine and the Emperor in the Star Wars Saga raised suave villainy to a new level, will make a rare public appearance at Star Wars Celebration Europe on Friday, July 13 to help commemorate the Saga's 30th anniversary.

McDiarmid will be a special guest of Lucasfilm Ltd. and event organiser Cards Inc. during the Opening Ceremonies at ExCeL London. The Opening Ceremonies will be hosted by Steve Sansweet, head of fan relations for Lucasfilm Ltd., and will include a special one-time-only screening of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope .

Admission to the Opening Ceremonies, scheduled for 6:30 pm on the grounds just west of the ExCeL Center, is included in the cost of a three-day or a Friday pass to Star Wars Celebration Europe, the biggest Star Wars party Europe has ever seen, and the first official Star Wars event to be held outside of the U.S.
If this is true, I really envy the people who'll have the choice to attend to this event!

EDIT: Hm. Just found the link to the list-of-events on SW.com: Link.
The entry there sounds more like it's just the special edition version. It's the "special one-time-only screening" part of the newsletter that got my hopes up.
I'm still not entirely sure, I guess we'll have to wait what people report from the actual event.

Especially since its referred to as "Episode IV: A New Hope." Lucasfilm probably won't ever screen the original again.

Since no one else has posted, it was the 2004 DVD they played. Power cut happened just before Obi-wan's death, and when the power came back up 10 minutes later the DVD resume just after Obi-Wan's death.

I dream of a future, where it's possible to pause a DVD and/or skip back a chapter or two...

Wow. They didn't go back a chapter?

Nope, despite everyone shouting for them to rewind it. Although a couple of fans decided to 'fill in the blanks' with their masterpiece sabres.

Best bit was the opening when the rebel troopers are fighting the stormtroopers - halfway through the sequence a bunch of fans dressed as rebel troopers ran under the screen! It was like cheap 3D!!

Which one? And screening it would mean that they did in fact have prints, which they won't admit.

oh but you're forgetting the exact wording of the form-response email:

"existing prints are in poor condition"

So it's even worse than denying they have prints. They actually admitted right to our faces that they have them, they just won't take the time to restore them like they did the o-neg for the SE.

That would be "The Searchers" with John Wayne.

Cone on guys, don't you know the originals don't exist

They still exist alright, some of the footage was used in Empire of Dreams. George Lucas has just poorly preserved them and safeguards them, along with a print of the Holiday Special.
