Return of the Jedi - The Spence Edit

I thought I'd get a post going about this over on OT.

I've come out of hiding to do another fan edit, this time it's my first ever star wars edit. My edit of Return of the Jedi will be known for mainly removing one thing: The Ewoks.

The little furry buggers are nowhere to be found in this edit. The end battle is between the Empire and the Rebels, without the help of the Teddy Bears. This helps to keep a consistant tone throughout the film.

Also, I trimmed some pointless scenes and bad lines to make the film flow a bit better. Han Solo is less of a punk now, some of his girly "I think you love Luke blah blah blah" stuff is gone. That love triangle already got solved in Empire.

The original running time was 2 hrs. 16 min.

The new running time is 1hr. 38 min.

It'll be on demonoid within the week.

Sounds interesting - how did you trim the Ewoks out completely, though, while still having a final battle on Endor? What did you do with the ending?

Can you explain how you achieved this? The ewoks are in alot of shots in the final battle.

Spence,

This edit sounds really bold. If nothing else, I'm interested to see how you removed the ewoks and made a coherent plot for the end battle of the movie.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

I made the battle appear to be between only imperials and rebels. All of the Ewoks in the fight are removed.

This will be torrented by friday.

Is that possible? I mean, the ewoks took care of all the AT-STs - so how would the rebels do that? What about the beginning surprise attack by the ewoks?
Is it possible you could post a clip to show an example?

the way it's cut now, theoretically all of this happens off screen. It's as if there's a big battle occuring, but we're only seeing what Han and Leia are up to.

it's hard to explain, but makes sense when viewed.

What was the edit sourced from?

So theres still and Endor ground battle but the ewoks are not a part of it?

yep, the battle is still there, just no ewoks.

I used the special edition dvd's and OCPmovie's classic edition to edit.

It'll be up some time this week. I'm double checking everything to make sure its perfect.

If I recall correctly, the video quality on the OCPmovie releases was a bit... iffy. Has that been an issue at all?

only for certain original version shots, but it's very rare that i have a problem with the quality. The amount of work OCPmovie did to make the old effects blend with the new transfers is unbelievable, and is still my definitive version to watch.

and yes, the speeder bike chase is still in. Leia just never meets Wicket.

itll be out next week, most likely. There are some bugs and things, and a couple minor tweaks. I want to make sure i release a good, technically sound version of the edit.

i might say its more consistant in its tone. It's not all over the place now. It maintains that darker tone that is present in the death star battle and luke's fight with vader throughout.
