I'm more than happy to share the copy as the only reason I captured it was to help you out I'm going to mail out a copy to McFly as soon as he emails me his mailing address. I'm on holidays for the next two months so I'll get it out ASAP.

Shepp, we meant no disrespect in shouting your name from the hilltops; we're just dying for your un-noisey capture! I thought perhaps you had left the board, but am glad you're still here. Did you ever take any screenshots from your capture?

Molly, if Shepp's ends up being less than pristine, I'd love to have yours to average it with.

No disrespect taken PM sent.

Capture is mpeg2 and just under the size limit for a dvd-5. Should be the cleanest capture possible as it is a full true digital capture. Sat. feed goes into the computer, is tuned, captured directly to the hard drive.

I will mail it out Tuesday (July 1st Canada Day holiday here) but it will probably take longer than it should as it will be in transit during July 4th holidays on your side.

Telemundo is doing another airing of the theatrical cut today, from

4pm-6pm.

FEEL FREE TO CAP!

Telemundo's is the only broadcast I've found to feature uncut violence, so at the very least, I'll be cutting this version into the extended version where appropriate (spears through peoples' feet, etc.) At the most, I'll be using every bit of the Telemundo version I can, since the image is crisper than the Sci-Fi extended. I'll need to color correct the two so they cut well together, but I think it's doable. This will also require three captures of both the Sci-Fi and Telemundo versions, so they can be averaged separately with TooT, then cut together. To kill the logos on the Sci-Fi, it looks like I'll be able to use ReverendBeastly's Encore VHS, and for the Telemundo logos, the official VHS. I'm still not 100% confident about that part yet though.

That's November of last year, dude. I've seen it around, and it's not extended. Though I do look forward to the day that I can watch Waterworld in HD.

I received Shepp's digital capture yesterday. It is very clean, however the bitrate is a little on the low side (all 4 hours fit onto one DVD), so there's some MPEG-blockiness. I'm very busy right now, but as soon as I get a chance, I'll try to average Shepp's with mine and post some screenshots. If the blockiness makes its way through the average, I'll ask Molly to send me her capture, which is at a higher bitrate and covers four DVDs.

Considering how much work you're putting into this, I think introducing a low bitrate source is gonna create a lot of headaches for you. You'll be fighting noise and compression artifacts. Get the other source.

I also have 1 1/2 copies of the Sci Fi.


But, once again, I'm late for the Telemundo version (started a half-hour ago).

One day I found... 10 years had got behind me. Next day was worse.

 

Download  shows from Cable DVR (Updated! Yes, it needs a rewrite, but it's worth slogging through, anyway).

Not to worry, Jaiman; I have 3 Telemundos, 3 Sci-Fis, and 3 USAs. Hard drive space be damned! I'm working them together with Toot, and the results are encouraging. There is still some noise and there are synch issues I need to work on, but it's looking very good.

What I need most is more copies of the Encore broadcast to average with ReverendBeastly's copy, which has some interlace artifacts and ancient noise reduction/smoothing. Mitch said he had an original VHS, but I haven't been able to get in touch with him. Anybody else have a decent copy?

I'm also going to pick up a theatrical VHS on ebay to help fill in some of the edited violence.

Hey all. I just wanted to say I think this project is a great idea. I always liked waterworld. Probably cuz back in high school, one of my JV soccer teamates was the son of Robert Simokovic, a special effects guy in that film. He hyped it up to us so much, lol, it was impossible not to be pysched for it. No idea what ever happened to him, but I still like the film.

However, I have managed to miss the extended cuts when they have been aired. I think what McFly is doing is a great idea, and it looks great! I know that a few others have versions floating around at places like the noid, etc. Do any of you know which ending they have? Do they have the Everest ending, and are they edited for langauge/violence or un-edited? Sorry for the question, i wanted to figure it out before I snagged it

The two versions on Demonoid were the workprint and the extended Encore broadcast. I think both feature the Everest ending, and the Encore broadcast isn't censored for language or violence (I don't think).

The Encore is censored, but I haven't gotten around to checking just how much of it is. I know they cut the peeing in the cup shot.

No Problem. Seriously, your work looks great, and the idea of the composite is genius. I can't wait to see the end result of your composite.

On a side note, I'm guessing then that the Encore verison is my best bet to DL until the composite is finished? That sucks it lacks the pee scene though. Oh well, you know what they say. Beggers can't be choosers

I captured a 3-hour Waterworld broadcast on WGN last night. I figured it would be the same 3-hour cut that Bravo and USA aired, but I'm pleasantly surprised! It has a fair amount of footage from the 4-hour Sci-Fi cut mixed in--I haven't begun to scratch the surface, so I don't have all the details yet. The interesting thing is that the framing is slightly zoomed, and panned down significantly, which means it's a totally different telecine from the other cuts. I wonder, with all these extended versions, each with different framing, there must be a 35mm master print somewhere. My guess is they're transfering the full extended version to tape, then cutting it down, not making an extended version on video.
