I have mixed feelings about him. I thought Labyrinth of Evil--prequel to ROTS--was good, but Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader was god-awful. One of the worst SW novels ever (that I've read: I avoid the NJO and the KotOR eras).
Luceno wrote the e-novel, Darth Maul: Saboteur, which you may want to check out to see how he handles Bane.
According to Wikipedia, citing the SW Insider, Luceno had planned to write about the quest for immortality of Qui-Gon and Darth Plagueis, but this was put on hold due to "continuity concerns."
