Idea: The Phantom Tollbooth (animated, 1970) - a preservation?

I just discovered that MGM/Warners did an animated version of Norton Juster’s excellent book “The Phantom Tollbooth” back in 1970. I was surprised to find that Chuck Jones, Abe Levitow, and Mel Blanc were involved, which is like a who’s who of classic WB animation. TPT was one of my favorite books as a kid, so I would love to see this.

Here’s the thing, it’s only available on VHS, and that’s out of print. I would be willing to purchase the VHS if someone would be interested in doing a VHS>DVD preservation. I’ll have the VHS shipped directly to you, I have no use for it. All I’d want is a copy of the finished product. If you’re interested in tackling the project, please PM me!

At times like this I wish I hadn't wrecked my old VCR. :/

There was a Laserdisc version released in the late 90's.

The film did air on Turner Classic Movies back in 2004 once. I'm not sure if the airing was letterboxed, but it might have been since Turner may own the movie. If it airs on TCM again, someone should capture it.

The DVD is coming soon from Warner Bros, I think by the end of the year. It'll have The Dot and the Line as an extra.

Is anyone planning on sharing this?  I'd record it, but I'm away from home that day.

I'll set a recording now. Only way I'll be able to make a DVD is to record it onto a standalone player, though.

I was able to watch it, but not cap it.  Anyone get it?

I recorded it from my DirecTV service straight onto DVD-R, but I'd like to know if anyone else successfully capped it as well. DirecTV has a bad habit of over-compressing their signals.   My cap looks better than VHS but not as good as a professional DVD.

How did ReverendBeastly's capture come out?

The DVR recording looks solid. It'll look pretty decent when I record it to a DVD.

Someone beat me to the punch with a DVD-R using the same method I would have over at Cinemageddon. I'll probably still burn it for myself, but for those looking for an easy torrent right now, head over to CG. Google it if you don't know where I'm talking about.
