Now that we live in a time when studios have a goal to turn everything into a trilogy or franchise, Dune could definitely get the budget/cast/director/treatment it deserves.

I say give it to Joss Whedon. Despite Serenity's commercial failure, it was a damn good science fiction movie, and I think Whedon has a grasp on the weirdness required to make Dune both faithful to the novel and a nice homage to Lynch's version.

Either him or Stephen Soderbergh. I thought he did a great job with Solaris.
