George Lucas & Seth Green Collaborate On
Adult Swim's ROBOT CHICKEN: STAR WARS!!

Actor-writer-director Seth Green has concocted “Robot Chicken: Star Wars,” a 30-minute stop-motion animated Cartoon Network special which mocks scenes from the movie franchise.

Green made it in collaboration with LucasFilm.

He got George Lucas to play himself and Mark Hamill to play Luke Skywalker.

It premieres June 17 at 10 p.m.

Others lending their voices to the project include Conan O'Brien, Robert Smigel, Malcolm McDowell, Hulk Hogan, James Van Der Beek, Donald Faison, Abraham Benrubi and Joey Fatone.

Learn how Green and Lucas got together here.

Oh, I supposed it was something different because it was referred to as an event that already had taken place. The airdate in the article above suggests it hasn't been aired yet. I apologize for the redundant post.

No your correct it never aired, was just directing everyone to the other thread. Maybe the author of that one will revise the title of the thread as the program approaches to cut down on unnecessary threads, which will inevitably be created...

This is kind of surprising, considering that Seth Green, along with Kevin Smith, have been pretty vocal about Lucas' treatment of the OT and the definite lack of quality in the PT. But maybe the more he hangs with these guys the better our chances will be, at least one can hope. I can't wait to see it though.

Well, at the very least, Lucas has a good sense of humor about himself sometimes.

Does anyone know if the Empire Strikes Back parody clip will be included in this new special on 7/17? (the one where Vader tells Luke he's his father, Leia's his sister, the ewoks defeat the empire, etc.)

If not, what is the name of the episode that featured that clip?

Real story about Vader & Luke

Yeah, I can't say which episode that was in, but I am sure it was a part of a regular episode.

Yeah, that one is funny as hell. I saw it a few months back. I could watch it a million times and still get a chuckle.

I assume that it will be included (since I believe the emporer clip will be in there since it's in the trailer, and that was from previous episode as well, if I'm not mistaken), but I don't know for sure.

The reason I ask, is because there's a RC marathon that day, and I'd like to know the name of the original episode so I can record it, in the event it's not included in the SW special. I could record all 8 hours of the marathon, but I'd like to avoid that if possible.

(not having any luck finding the Vader Luke chat episodes...)

UGO interviews Doug Goldstein producer of R.C.
UGO: Were there any scenes or bits in Robot Chicken: Star Wars that were left on the cutting room floor that are particularly close to your heart?

DOUG: There was one that, on the one hand, touched on a well-tread topic, but I thought was very silly and funny. It's the Han vs Greedo talk in the Cantina, and in the sketch they start shooting each other but no matter how often they fire, they always miss. Even if they have their blaster right up against each other. Greedo looks in the barrel of his blaster and even fires at his own face but keeps missing. Eventually, Han gives up and tosses his blaster away but when it hits the ground, it fires and hits a bystander dead-on. It was silly fun, but didn't make it until the end. \

EDIT: I just watched it (it's on again at 1:AM, 2:AM, 3:AM, 4:AM and 5:AM EST), and it DOES feature the Vader/Luke ESB sketch! Very funny show, the sets are fantastic!

It was good, but not great. It had the Saturday Night Live problem of sketches dragging on too long, and I didn't think the Bush sketch was funny at all. But damn, some of the moments were great.

I really liked this show quite a bit. And I'm not usually a fan of Robot Chicken.

I will agree the Bush sketch went on too long and it wasn't very funny, but everything else was great. I laughed my ass off.

They really hit it out of the park with that Admiral Ackbar Cereal commercial.

I loved the sketch with the Death Star construction workers- that was probably my favorite (aside from the one with Mark Hamill/Vader, that is).

I didn't get the Toche Station bit with the 'power converters' until my 2nd viewing- LOL!

didn't feel like there was that much to it, Some sketches weren't that great. I noticed a lot of the short clips were pretty good. I loved the ponda [sp?] sequence.

Vader being a Jerk

I know that was posted over a year ago, but yeah, I love that clip. I really want to redo it in full quality sometime and actually put it in the movie. Sometime when doing an SW marathon with many people it would be really funny to pop the version with this scene on it in the DVD player.

Anyway, while looking at that old video again I stumbled across this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=701NiTGsvHA&NR=1

Which was pretty funny and along the same lines, though it took me a while to get over the fact that Darth Vader has no freaking eye brows in that clip!!! (Yes, I really am that much of a 2004 SE virgin. I heard the eyebrows were removed, but I think this is the first time I actually have seen him without them and it looks freakin weird).

It looks bloody awful. It ruins the sympatheticness of the character in the scene. It's important that he come off as a nice old man, not a spooky-looking no-eyebrows guy. Another piece of horrible bad judgement from Lucas. But the other crime against Sebastian Shaw, replacement with Hayden Christensen later on, is arguably even worse. Why the hell would I want to see Hayden Christensen at the end of Return of the Jedi? And what the hell does he have to do with Anakin Skywalker or Darth Vader? (Crap performances in movies that don't qualify as Star Wars don't count.)

So what. The old movies shouldn't be altered to suit the inferior new ones. It doesn't matter if it doesn't make sense. The old movies don't exist to serve the new ones. That scene worked the way it was. It was a cool scene in a great film and shouldn't have been changed to suit a crap scene in a worthless film made over twenty years later. If Lucas was worried about them fitting together he should have found a way to make the new film fit in with the old one, not make the old film fit in with the new one. The eyebrows are crucial for the emotional effect of that scene and the emotional effect of the scene is crucial for the whole trilogy. As is Shaw's final appearance as a force ghost. With those two alterations Lucas stabbed his saga in the heart and insulted an actor who turned in fine work.

Yeah, I agree they shouldn't really be altered in the first place but they should have done something with Shaw's eyebrows in 1983.  Its established in the old trilogy that Vader's hair got cooked somehow (evidenced by his deformed, hairless head), why should his eyebrows remain?
