I live pretty close to Farmers Branch and I am so glad that the anti-immigration ordinances passed by a margin of 68% to 32% last night. LULAC asked for the election, got it, and lost it. Now they are upset that it didn't go their way and have pledged to circumvent the will of the people by taking it before several judges until they find one who is liberal enough to challenge the people's decision of Farmers Branch.
It's good to see that some places left in the States have enough common sense. I just wish the president and Congress would quit being so lax on the issue, otherwise we're never going to get any meaningful changes.
If all localities nationwide would take up the responsibility of locating and detaining illegal immigrants, that would remove the burden from the incapable and overburdened INS. Then INS could then focus solely on deportation, and, especially in the case of the Mexican illegals, have more of the budget to allow them all to be flown to the FAR border of Mexico, near Belize. It would cut down on re-entry massively because the border would cease to be a revolving door for deportees. They'd have to re-trek across the very long country of Mexico to get back into the U.S. instead of swimming across the next night.
I don't buy the argument that nobody else wants the jobs they take. Tell that to the citizen who wants a job and can't find one.

Yeah, that argument is just an easy way to cop out. Back during my years working in construction I have known illegal immigrants to have given lower bids on certian jobs than ligitimate citizens and as a result gotten the job. This is a perfect example of illegals getting jobs that would have otherwise gone to ligitmate citizens or even legal immigrants. There may be some pretty low jobs, but there are people for them someplace. Even if there aren't people that will do them other than illegal immigrants, do we really want something illegal to be the easy answer to the problem? If there are jobs that are so unpleasant nobody wants to do them, perhaps those jobs shouldn't exist. Also what makes it so certian that they wont reallize their pithy, unpleasant little job sucks a lot more than it has to and move on to become a painter with the ability to give lower bids on jobs than somebody who has a lot more expenses to worry about.
That whole nobody else wants the jobs they take is a bunch of bull, and just another way of saying, "Hey, its not my problem and I am not going to let it be my problem."
One thing that might help would be if we had more "sweat shops" where they could work in Mexico and earn a decent living ligitimately. A lot of people gasp at the word "sweat shop" yet we say we need them to move to America in order that they can do our unpleasant jobs that we think we are too good for. It would also be a good way to help out our neighbor's economy while slowing down the vast quantities of money we are throwing into the Chinese economy.
So here we have it, the will of the people, in this case 68% of the city, is totally an utterly being ignored and discounted by another unelected, unaccountable federal court judge. Is this the American Dream our forefathers dreamed about? Where the will of the people is completely eliminated by one man? Granted this is a temporary injunction, I'm sure this idiot judge will make it permanent. It is just such a shame that our country overwhelmingly wants something done about the open borders and illegal immigration, yet the politcians and elected judges crap on it everyday.
Well all, it seems that this exceedingly terrible piece of legislation has failed. Now hopefully we can move on and only hope that the politicians on Capitol Hill have seen that most Americans only want our current laws enforced and the border completely secured. Being on the frontline of the fight, I see everyday how badly this illegal immigration is destroying America. Here is a list of my recommendations to fix this problem.
1. Build a huge wall. Why is this such an issue, China built a very large and amazingly secure wall centuries ago. Why in this supposedly advanced age of technology and machines can we not build something similar, but on a much smaller scale. Starting from the Gulf of Mexico and ending at the Pacific Ocean there should a stone wall measuring at least 20 foot high and 16 fet wide. Put a walking area atop it with stations for Border Patrol officers. Also place several Unmanned Aerial Vehicles along with portions of electronics surveillance systems and several brigades of National Guard Troops on call all along to thing and our border would be pretty damn secure. Also give more funding to the borders Law Enforcement Agencies, there are several Sheriff's along the border who could do a hell of job enforcing the nations laws if given the power, people, and funding to do so.
2. Deport whenever possible. I am not saying we should start raiding parties and go door to door demanding papers. However, if any illegal alien is legally detained by any police officer in the United States, the police officer should be allowed to determine residency status and then place the subject in custody for deportation. Now if you begin deporting some here and there, many will go back willingly after the heads of families are deported. You do not have to deport all 20 million illegals here, just only about 25% would actually have to be deported. Also, if an officer pulls an Illegal over who has no drivers license, insurance, or proof of residency, the officer should be allowed to seize the vehicle and have the illegal deported. You do that a few times and I promise, illegals would be running for the border.
3. Make it harder for them to be here. This entails many things that needs to be done. (a) Enforce criminal penalties on those who willingly hire illegals. Not so hard to understand, is it. (b) Healthcare restrictions. I am not for not taking care of people whenever they needs it, but right now we have whole hospitals shutting down and filing bankruptcy because they take care of illegals who have no insurance and never pay their bills. Let's restrict when and how the illegals can be treated. First, nothing outside of life threatening should be treated at all. If an illegal walks into an E.R. with a cut thumb, they should be given a pamphlet instructing them how what to buy at Wal-mart in order to take care of it themselves. Also, if they walk in with something that is necessary to treat and is deemed potentially life threatening (i.e. fever, severe illness, what have you) then all money they have on their persons should be taken as payment along with extensive identifying marks, features, addresses, water bills, etc. (c) NO WELFARE OR W.I.C. Plain and simple isn't it. If you are not a United States Citizen, then you are not entitled to any welfare or women with infant children (W.I.C.) assistance. I used to work in a supermarket about 10 years ago and I could not tell you how many times I had to take illegals around to store to show them what they could get under W.I.C. or how many times illegals would walk up with a Lone Star Card (Texas Welfare Credit Card) and buy $2000 worth of groceries. Then after buying all the free welfare food, the illegal men would pull a wad of money out of his pockets and buy $150-$200 worth of beer. Huge amount of money in their pocket and they use welfare, sad. (d) Charge illegals for schooling. Right now the school systems are being ripped apart at the seams here in Texas. If any illegals want their children to be educated, they have to pay fees and penalties. If a child's residency cannot be established, the school should then demand that payment be made (somewhere around $2000-$3000) for each kid admitted into the school for each school year. I know here in Texas, we already have to pay fees if we sends our kids to districts where we have no residency (i.e. Dallas kid wants to go to Fort Worth ISD, parents pay fees upwards to $2000 to F.W.I.S.D. and kid goes to Fort Worth) Why can't we do the same for illegals regardless of residency within a school district, but based upon citizenship.
There are many details to hash out, but for the most part if you were to invoke any of the ideas listed above, many illegals would just go back because living here would no longer be the great joyride it is today for most of them such as free education, medical coverage, welfare, lack of deportation risks. Maybe some of my ideas my seem extreme, but if you put the pen to paper and realize the finanical impact these illegals could cause us over the course of the next 25 years, funding for these projects would be so much cheaper by far.
Also, mandate that English be used exclusively for all government business. I'm not saying that you cannot use Spanish or German in your home or church, but when you go to court or pay your water bill, the government should not be expected to translate everything for you.
