Yes, because Christianity is SOOO much worse than using mind-altering substances that could permanently damage and/or kill you (see also: Syd Barrett, Jerry Garcia, Jim Morrison, etc.)

What did Christianity have to do with this conversation, anyway?

I do too, except for the fact that Albert Einstein was German, not American.

becoming an american citezen makes you american, as well as being born in the united states. if Einstein became an american citezen and i believe he did that makes him american.

Well he was a German/Swiss. When he went to America he became an American. He also kept Swiss nationality but got rid of his German nationality. But whatever his nationality I think he's one of the greatest men that ever lived.
Fez: I am so excited about Star Whores.
Hyde: Fezzy, man, it's Star Wars.

Heh, true, but he was so heavily associated with the US in his later years and his accomplishments were so great that I believe a list of greatest Americans should recognize him in some way, even if he wasn't primarily an American.

He shot himself in a room adjacent to the room where his daughter-in-law and grandson were hanging out in at the time (yeah, what a great guy. Ultra self-cenetred jackass,) he typed the word "Counselor" on a piece paper in front of himself before he blew his brains out. Can't get any sillier than that.

Seriously, that's straight out of any 14 - 16 year old's selfish "Oh poor me, I'll show the world!" wicked angsty fantasy.

You don't have to be crazy to "get" him; you have to be some angsty high school kid who's against the world, or someone who was never able to shake that childish attitude. He wasn't deep, he wasn't particularly intelligent, he was "interesting" at best. Great? Please.

Noam Chomsky is a very intelligent guy but his view of the world is insane. Otherwise, I wouldn't classify him as ever belonging to a list of great Americans since I've never heard him praise, support, or credit any facet of American culture. (Maybe he has, but I'd question the genuine nature of such a comment in light of the hatred he's expressed for America at other points in time.)

I will say that it's a better choice than John Lennon, but still.

Well, since John Lennon was British, I guess it crosses him off.
