I've been going to car shows ever since I could crawl. I know quite a bit about them.

That's something I wish I could've done, too, but circumstances didn't allow it.

One disappointment at the second last big car show I went to (International Auto Show in Toronto) was that that Ford 49 I mentioned earlier was going to be there...the day after I went. I was so excited to see the signs for it and so sad knowing I wouldn't get to see it. Did get to see the Ford Explorer woody, though. That thing was great!

Yeah, they did give me some great memories. There used to be this old style drive-in in north Dallas called Fenders, every Saturday nights they would have a really cool car show type thing, but really informal. My Dad and brothers would run up there and hang out for hours, on into at least 1-2 in the mornings. They would play 50's music and had neons everywhere. Those guys would roll through the lot in their cars, some would park. It was constantly rotating, cause some would leave and some would show up. That place closed down after only about 3-4 years of business, as I recall the only thing they did wrong was charge way too much for burgers and shakes, so they didn't sell much.

They do the same kind of thing here. They did it at Burger King for a number of years, and there was always a big turnout. But now they've switched it to A&W, which has the tiniest little parking lot. They could only fit 1/4 as many cars, I'm sure. It's like an afterthought. I don't know what happened, really.

Still, nice to see some rarer cars out now that the weather is nice here. It's cottage country around here, too, so a lot of the big city tycoons come up in their fancy cars. I've seen some Ferrari 360s, Vipers, Cobras, Porsches. It's cool being able to spot them from a mile away, because they're so unique compared to all the blandness on the road at any given time.

I heard they were selling it, but I couldn't find it online. T.T Anyone have any info on it?

Here's another pic, first of all:

The prototype sold for $180,000 (cost around half a million to build, though) and will be on permanent display at the Petersen Automotive Museum in L.A.

Here's some extra info from petersen.org: "The Mach 5 has been described as “the most famous race car in the world” because of the continuing popularity of the 1967 Speed Racer cartoon series, which has an estimated fan base of 50 million people. In 2000, this three dimensional interpretation of the cartoon Mach 5 completed a nationwide automotive safety tour sponsored by the Child Safety Network. Speed Racer Motors later unveiled plans to build a Signature Series of 100 road-ready Mach 5’s numbered and signed by Peter Fernandez, the voice actor and creative force behind the Speed Racer Cartoons. Unlike this prototype which has a mid-engine, the Corvette based “production” roadsters will feature a 5.7 liter, 385 horsepower V-8 engine mounted in the front."

Can the choices be for fictitious and fantastical cars? (It certainly doesn't hurt to check.)

Yep, anything is fair game, so long as it is a transport device of some sort, real or imagined.
