i am very excited about the upcoming seventieth anniversary edition of the hobbit, as well as the two volume history of the hobbit.

I read the children of Hurin the first new tolkien book in 30 years, while celebrating the 30th anniversary of the silmarillion.

This is also the thirtieth anniversary year of the sword of shannara by terry brooks, as well as the 30th anniversary of star wars. and the mass market printing of the alan dean foster novelization.

really the 31st anniversary is you count the 1976 printing.

The Hobbit is the best story ever written in my mind. I love that book.

The Hobbit was definitely a great book. The Silmarillion...meh. Just didn't do it for me. Still need to read Children of Hurin though I'm in the middle of several great books right now so it will have to wait, unfortunately.
