Oooh, top ten lists. Gotta love 'em.

Okay, here goes, but keep in mind that I still haven't seen all the films that I want to see, like ROTK, Bad Santa, and Lost in Translation (all of which I should be seeing in the next week or so).

1. From Justin to Kelly (just kidding, wanted to see if you guys were paying attention)

Okay, for real this time...

1. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
2. Finding Nemo
3. Open Range
4. X2: X-Men United
5. Narc (not in wide release until '03; so to me here in Chicago, this is a 2003 release)
6. Gangs of New York (not in wide release until '03; see above)
7. The Italian Job
8. The Recruit
9. Runaway Jury
10. Whale Rider

I may have forgotten something that I've seen, but my mind isn't working all that well on its own right now. Damn holiday brain freeze. So I'm working off a website listing video release dates from last year and the first few months of this year.

I'm waiting to see Big Fish, Last Samurai, and Lost in Translation as well (may see that one tonight in 2nd run).

Sorry you don't agree on PotC but I absolutely loved Johnny Depp in it. He made the movie and it was enjoyable as hell. Yes there are films that are better and I'm now putting one up there since I saw it this weekend.

LOTR: ROTK is now my #1. Finally saw it.

I loved Pirates of the Carribean. You have to give the creaters of that movie some credit. All they had was the ride in Disney land to base off of. The creaters of Return of the King had a popular novel. Pirates of the Carribean has everything. Comedy, action, great Special Effects and Keira Knightly. There is little not to love about that movie. Also Rebal Scumb I am glad you agree with me about Terminator 3 Rise of the Machines.

I haven't seen T3 to fully agree with your statement, but I definitely worship T1 over T2 (which is a far inferior movie) any day of the week.

well I never said it was bad, but it just felt kind of average to me. Sure they did a good job and all, it just didn't blow me away. Depp was good, but then he's always good, and he's been better IMHO. And all the other characters save Rush were pretty flat. Not bad, just not outstanding. Anyways as long as you guys loved it thats what counts.

And yeah T1 is way better then T2, it works much better as a stand alone film, and even though I like T3, I could do without it. What I love about T1 is that its all a paradox, if the terminator had never gone back to kill John(through Sarah) then Kyle Reese would never have gone back to save him(and her) which means that John would never be concieved, and Sarah would never be prepared for Judgement day, so in trying to kill John Conner, the machines created him. I love that stuff.

Now we agree thats what I love about the first Terminator also. You also forget though that if the Terminator chip was never found in the lab skynet would have never been made. I love that stuff. Terminator 2 was a dumb action movie it bugs the hell out of me how many people think it is better. Terminator 3 carryed over some of Terminator 2s problems but was better with faster pace, one of the hottest girls in the world, and one of the best endings in the history of movies.

yeah, T3 reset the balance of the paradox that was undone by T2. The TX was hot indeed. and the humour, though over the top, was better played then T2 because Arnold played as the straightman and remained in character, unlike his "I need a vacation" stupid lines in T2.

What did work in T2 was camerons directing, the SFX and the transformation of Sarah Conner into psycho commando lady. Ulitmately if elements from T2 and T3 had been combined we would have a better sequel then either, but as I said before T1 would have best been left a standalone film. A simple parable about a dark future told through suspense and a tragic love story.

Okay folks... saw Lost in Translation last night. Excellent film. If you like Bill Murray a la Ed Wood, Rushmore, and The Royal Tenenbaums, you'll love this. Now in my top 10 as well. I'm gonna have to revisit my rankings but not until after this weekend when I hope to see Big Fish and maybe even The Last Samurai.

I definutly agree with you Rebal scum. Arnolds character in Terminator 3 was a combination of his characters from the first two films. Though he was still the protecter he behaved more like a machine and didn't ask why people cry. The humor in Terminator 3 was never inappropiate for the serious story either. The T-X was the sexiest villian ever. It was the ending that made it for me. Spoiler Warning. The way Judgement Day was shown was done perfectly. It sent chills down my spine that it was ordinary computers and the internet that destroyed the world. The missles going off looked beautiful and peaceful but with so much death and destruction to follow. The movie is not without flaws. The first movie states only living tissue can go through time. The T-1000 and the T-X are not living tissue. I always assumed that the T-1000 was first in living tissue and broke out of it after going through time since his arrival isn't shown. The T-Xs arrival was shown and doesn't make sense how she went through time though it did give some awsome visual benefit.

Top 10 thus far (not in any particular order):
PotC
Dirty Pretty Things
Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas (this one really got no respect-- a great little film)
Finding Nemo
Kill Bill Vol. 1
Once Upon a Time in Mexico
Something's Gotta Give-- what a smart and funny movie!
School of Rock-- finally, a film about music in schools that isn't schmaltzy

The last two places are being held for RotK (which I still haven't seen all of) and whatever else I deem worthy. I think it's time to go and start the logical antithesis of this thread.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Not to mention that Scarlett Johansen is hotter then a sex sandwich. I really wanted to see this movie but lost my chance. I guess I'll have to wait for it on dvd.

Not to mention the continuity error when Arnold gets in the truck and knows where to look for the keys instead of just ripping off the stearing wheel. This was something that John taught the T2 Terminator and there is no way by my logic that T3 terminator could have figured this out.

Still I agree the ending was great, it worked both as a satisfactory ending to a trilogy if there are no more parts, and at the same time made me really want there to be a T4. I think it would be cool to see the start of the resistence, with the rubber skinned T-600s that Reese talked about in T1, and having John and Kathryn recruiting their team including a young Kyle Reese. Supposedly Arnold can't do the movie because of his new gig, but he recommended the Rock to be the new terminator.

I completely forgot about Something's Gotta Give. That was good. Much better than Jack's last flick About Schmidt which I hated. Sorry to all Schmidt fans, but we all have our opinions.

Scumb, you would have liked the opening image. Just a fixed close up on Johansson's butt laying on her side on a bed with pink cotton, see-through panties. Camera lingers there for quite a while. And for good reason...

damn bossky you're getting me all hot and bothered!

I've had a thing for SJ for a couple years now, its nice that she's finally getting recognition.

I really liked About Schmidt but have yet to see Somethings gotta give, though I've seen many parts including the ending while I've been at work.

I think I'm gonna check that out tonight if we don't go see Peter Pan which I'm still curious about.

I want to see this one too. Looks great. And it's got Jason Isaacs who is one of my fave UK actors since Alan Rickman.
