EVERYTHING HARRY POTTER — Page 2

I heard Jackson saying that he wasn't sure who would play Bilbo because Ian Holm was too old, which makes no sense to me, because Gandalf says in Fellowship that Bilbo hasn't aged a day. I don;t think anyone would be mad if they just had a dark haired Ian Holm in it, and anyone else would not seem right.

LOTR returning cast/cameos that could be worked in:

-John Rhys Davis as Gloin (Gimli's dad)
-Gollum
-Gandalf
-Elrond
-Arwen
-Legolas (in a cameo in the mirkwood sequence)

I also think Patrick stewart would be cool as Thorin the head dwarf.

Guess I'd better read it. Should we start a Hobbit thread or revive the old one?

Nasty, filthy Hobbitses; think theyse deserving of theyse own thread... no thread for Smeagol...

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

But Mister Frodo, I think we should spite Stinker even more by starting a thread to Deagol. Lousy little Slinker. Stew a brace of coneys, will he?

getting back to Harry Potter, what did everyone think of Book5?

I liked it at the time, but the more I think about it alot of things were kind of off.

I think it was nice to have those "off" elements. Added a new dimension to it. Goes to show what three years of writer's block can do for a series.

I did enjoy it and much moreso than Book 4 which bored me. Took me friggin' forever to read 4 whereas I cut the time down by about 75% in 5 because it held my attention that much more.

5 did justify its length a lot more then 4. But I think by the end there were a few too many subplots. The Hagrids brother thing wasn't really nessesary or very interesting IMHO. Meanwhile ferrenz the centaur kind of came and went, and the Ron+Hermoine situation was entirely thrown by the way side. I was so excited that they were both going to be prefects, it was such an interesting set up with no real follow through.

I did like that she managed to bring back essientially every character from the series in some sort of cameo form.

the big revelation to Harry at the end was kind of a let down as well, it wasn't really anything new, the twist about Neville was cool, but then they absolved it to quickly, they should of left that in question until book 6.

I'm glad Harry got rid of Chow chang, I couldn't stand her. I'm still pulling for him and Ginny.

Have you heard that Rowan Atkinson (mr. Bean) will be playing Voldermort in HP4?

Atkinson as Voldemort? That should be interesting.

Very interesting indeed; I'd rather see him as Ludo Bagman.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

well he might be bagman, but I'm pretty sure he's the big V. He's definitely in the movie according to something I read yesterday, but about 6months ago there was a rumour they wanted him for voldermort, so i assume that is who he is playing.

are they making all the books into movies.
Author

in theory. I assume as long as the movies keep making money they will. However it might be a problem if books 6 & 7 are written quickly enough.

No guarantee that all seven will make it to film. But I'm sure Warner will juice the series for all it's worth.

As for Atkinson, according to IMDb, it's confirmed that he's Voldemort. I just don't know that I will be able to take him seriously in the role. It took me nearly a dozen viewings to get used to Michael Keaton as Batman after only seeing him in comedic roles. But he could be a better straight man in his comedic roles than Atkinson who I only know for goofy, slapsticky comedy. This is gonna be tough.

well he's gonna be wearing monster makeup to make him look deformed I assume, and Voldermort is a pretty over the top character. I could see it working.

Atkinson Becomes 'Potter' Baddie

Rowan Atkinson is trying to overcome the depression caused by the critical mauling of his last film by becoming a villain - he's playing Lord Voldemort in the new Harry Potter film. The British 48-year-old star had to check into a rehabilitation clinic in America after last year's Johnny English was slammed by critics - even though it did relatively good business at the box office. However, the rubber-faced funnyman has decided to expand his repertoire by signing up for the part of evil Voldemort in the upcoming The Goblet Of Fire, which is due for release in 2005. A source comments, "Its a very major career change for Rowan. He has been looking to spread his wings and branch out into other roles. "He doesn't want to be the nice guy or the rubber-faced chap forever." Atkinson's character has previously appeared only as a spirit, but is brought by to life by "death eaters" in the Goblet Of Fire, which will follow this year's third Potter installment, The Prisoner Of Azkaban.

I remember that, but I didn't see Pacific Heights until well after Batman. So, at the time, I was having trouble seeing Keaton in a serious, dark, comic book role because I hadn't, up to that point, seen him in anything but comedies.

Hey Bossk, do you know who almost got the part of Batman instead of Keaton?

I'll give you a hint, he is also known pretty much only for comedy.

I read that Alec Baldwin was an original consideration for Batman. While Robin Williams and Tim Curry were original considerations for Joker (as per IMDb).

Well I had this batman book out from the library out a few years back, it was published in 1988 right before Batman went into production and the end of the book talks about how Batman will live forever because Tim Burton was making a Batman movie and he wanted Jack Nicholson for the Joker and either Michael Keaton or BILL MURRAY to play Batman.

It certainly would have been different. I kind of would like to see that, mainly for Murray's Bruce Wayne. I'd just like to see him say "Because I bought it in Japan" while flirting with Kim Bassinger.

Bill Murray? Yes, that would have been different. I wonder how he would have done with that 70 lb suit on him.
