It would have made much more sense to do the show about Vader's rise to power and hunting down the remaining Jedi.

The second television series, the live action series takes place during the time period between Episode 3 and Episode 4 featuring background characters like bounty hunters and x-wing pilots. The live action series is a go for either late 2009 or 2010.

There are downloadable clone wars trailers available in .wmv .avi .mov formats here.

"I mean... there's no sense to it. None. It's just empty action shots on top of each other "

It's...a....freaking...TEASER TRAILER. What exactly did you expect?

Well that was more of an estimate on how I think the show will turn out, based on this trailer and the latest we've seen from LucasFilm (Clone Wars cartoon and the "video game movie" RotS). And I was pretty much in shock over how silly I thought the trailer looked so I might've exaggerated a bit. But seriously, I do miss the mythic saga that Star Wars used to be. I feel it has transformed into some kind of senseless action monster, but that's just my opinion.

As stated though, fan edit-fodder is always welcome of course.

I know it's a long shot, but I would love to see them go after Paul Dini.

I know he's busy writing Detective Comics and Countdown and, I think, still working on "Lost," but he speaks very highly of his time at "Ewoks." I was going over some old Insiders, and in the article about the cartoons, he said some very sensible things that make me think he'd be a great story editor for this. And, of course, his work on Batman: The Animated Series speaks for itself.

Even if it's just bringing him on board as a consultant for a week a year, I'd feel a bit better about this.

George Lucas, in his infinitely infantile way, says to Genndy Tartakovsky:

Anything you can do,
I can do better.
I can do anything
Better than you.

No, you can't.

Yes, I can. No, you can't.
Yes, I can,
Yes, I can!

Anything you can be
I can be greater.
Sooner or later,
I'm greater than you.

No, you're not. Yes, I am.

No, you're NOT!. Yes, I am.
Yes, I am!

I can shoot a partridge
With a single cartridge.

That is exactly what I thought. And, except for the stand-out stylized character animation, this is pretty much what the sfx in the prequels looked like, anyway. Computer-animated clonetroopers marching around with computer animated battle droids on computer animated planets or in computer animated spaceships. Blech. Congratulations animators - you earned a degree in computer animation! Too bad everything in this looks artificial and lifeless. Everything about this sucks. (To me, anyway).

Well, for the people who are up for this, I hope you aren't disappointed. Maybe I will be proven wrong.

It's an animated cartoon for crying out loud. It's not meant to be anything more than that. So what if it's computer animation. Either get used to it, or turn off the tv. It's not 1977 anymore, it's 2007 and the digital revolution is here whether you like it or not. Feel free to live the rest of your life in a time bubble if you want, but you're going to miss out on so much the world has to offer.

Come on - there's good computer animation and bad. Of course, it's pretty subjective. My opinion is this stinks. Something like Homestar Runner, while crude and simple in comparison to the amount of effort put into this new series - is better (to me) because it's appropriate for the material and consistent. Here, you have ships, planets, landscapes almost identical to the quality used in the movies, and then you have big-head Yoda waltz in looking like Lego Star Wars. It's just not consistent. It would be like sticking Shrek-quality animation into Revenge Of The Sith and expecting no reaction from the audience. Or better yet - it's like a CGI Jabba stuck in a movie from 1977. The animation is not consistent, and there seems to be no reason, not even stylistically. It's not pretty to look at, so why animate it if it could be done with live actors? Oh wait - maybe it's because the story is not strong/concise to fit into a 2-3 hour movie and it would cost too much to use the actual people. Like I said, I could be wrong - but if this is really going to be that epic of a story, why couldn't it be told the PT films? So what do you end up with - uninspired animation aiming for realism but falling short and a story that is apparently all fighting (even action movie trailers have more than a few lines of throwaway dialogue). Sounds like the Mortal Kombat CGI direct-to-VHS movie to me.

Why not wait until it comes out before pre-judging the storyline? Trailers are meant to entice their audience. From what I've heard it's mostly character driven storylines. And we're still getting a live action series as well, but we'll have to wait longer for that and it won't have any of the major characters involved.

The animation and the artwork, as far as I'm concerned, is a bit odd. Then again, so was the Clone Wars 2-D series. I never watched Saumarai Jack, but once I got used to seeing it, it wasn't bad at all. I can see why people might rip this series apart, mostly because of the already existing canon timeline set by the movies which only sets up a person to be dissapointed.

People, give this series a chance. You have seen one teaser. That is it. Why not wait until more is revealed before hating it. The fact that it is animation gives it less limits. Which is a good thing. How can you even have fun with star wars anymore win you view every new thing about it as a bad thing. If I was George Lucas do you think I would settle for anything less than top of the line cutting edge design and equipment? Hell no! When you can have and do the best. Why not. He is trying something different. So what? If you stick with the old and always reject advancement and improvement, how can you expect to discover bigger and better ways of doing things. George is doing today what he did the day he made Star Wars. He is going against what everyone is saying and wants and is doing what he wants. That is how Star Wars was born and now you scorn him for it. We can not judge it until we see the finished project because we have no right to, and have no idea how it might turn out. For all we know it could be an awsome piece of work. Yes, George screwed some of us with the prequels, but that does not mean everything he makes is going to be the same way. Once we have seen the finished project then judge it, but don't judge it after watching only one teaser.

Fair enough, and I don't think it looked that bad. I'll watch it for sure.

But I think the larger problem with the prequels was not any particular decision but the entire way of approaching them. Some of that approach is evident in what's been seen in the trailers--e.g., an emphasis on effects and action rather than on plot and characters. With that in mind, I think a fair amount of concern and skepticism is warranted.

Speaking for myself, until George surrounds himself with people other than yes-men (Rick McCallum, take a bow), I'll doubt that anything near Empire Strikes Back will be produced. (My friend swears that the Star Wars universe began to implode the day Gary Kurtz left. He's not completely wrong.)

I see lots of flashy visuals and action scenes but not a hint of characters or story--if these things follow suit then the show could be quite good. I really liked the animated Clone Wars series from 2004, though they will have to have less action and more character if they wish to sustain a full-length TV series and not webisode-length minis. Its kind of interesting in that this new series is a 3D follow up in the same style and with the same villains first introduced there (Grevious and that Sith chick). I'm more concerned about how they will hadle the protagonist however (is it even Anakin?) but we'll have to see how it goes since this trailer is so brief and lacking.

Looks more promising than the Prequels turned out to be. At least it seems it might be putting the "Wars" back in "Star Wars". <sigh>
