The entire 'lost' timeline plays out in less time than we have to wait between seasons.

The entire time I was watching last nights episode I thought the scenes with scruffy Jack were before he got on the Island, and even when meets up with Kate I still thought that this was before hey were on the island and that they knew each other before they were on the island. I missed all the hints about it being in the future, except the one where Jack screams at Kate " When weren't supposed to leave." Then I felt like I had been hit in the head with a Hammer. I could not think. The makers of Lost pulled a good one us this time. Also, it is sad what happened to Charlie, because he was always such a cool character. And what was up with Michael's son being on the island? And, Herlie is awsome. I am glad he did not listen to Sawyer's rejection and did what he felt like he needed to. If it had not been for him Sawyer and Juliett would have been captured or killed. It was a great season finale, and I hope next season is as good as this one was.

That was the best 2 hours of TV in a long time.

Something that was neat was that the funeral parlour Jack visits is Hoffs/Drawlar whicj is an anagram for "flash forward," which was cool.

I think the prevailing theme was controlling outcomes versus resignation to one's fate. I hate to see Jack so fucked up, but maybe that is just one possible outcome, similarly to Desmond's deja vu episode from the start of the season.

I loved seeing Hurley flying out onto the beach in the van - it was like Han in the Falcon suddenly swooping in to save the day.

What a great show...

You guys realize that they implied Jack's father is still alive? When he was confronting the doctor during his breakdown he says "Call my father down here, get him down here". Did I miss something?

BTW: How satisfying was it when he beat the piss out of Ben? Quite vicarious if I do say so.

Hurley, riding in to save the day was probably my favorite part. Ben getting the shit beat out of him was a close second.

Viewing Charlies fate along with his backstory really sort of got to me. I didnt even think i gave a damn about the rockstar hobbit, until seeing him go out like that. But I get a feeling it wont be the last time we see him though.

Whos funeral was that though? I was presuming it was Kates until the end. So I go with Sawyer. There again it could be Julietts. Or even Locks. No, i actually think in some wierd twist of the story it is Jacks Dad in there.

This wasnt the cliff hanger i was expecting. But its a very welcome twist to the expected formula.

In all i think season 3 started to slowly, but after its break it came back with some fantastic episodes, making it just pip the first season as the best season so far. I just hope the writers continue to build on this with season 4, and if only 16 episodes gives us less pointless backstorys then this could be a move for the better.
Fav Season: 3
Fav Character: Des (although its always been Sawyer for entertainment value)

no i dont think ben would have left the island, but then again there is no way anyone can predict that. At the time i thought it was sawyer, now i am begining to doubt it more though, it seems too obvious. its definately not juliette cause i think he would have kept in touch with her, to the point where he woulda found out about her death from other sources that dont include a news paper clipping.

Let's not forget what Ben has accomplished since he arrived on the Island. His alternative to island life would probably be prison time.

In regards to Jack's dad I recall 2 instances of him being mentioned. I one Jack's comments were loaded with sarcasm, and in the other The chemist was going to call Jacks father and He hung the phone up on her. - he also made excuses for her not to. Both those times he was pretty fucked up.

So is the future set in stone? or will we see different possible outcomes?

I guess the main question now is 'Will Desmond get the word to Hurley/Jack in time that the boat people are not who we thought they are?'
I guess it'd be a waste of Charlie's heroism if he doesn't.

I didn't quite understand why Charlie sealed himself in either. Maybe to preserve the outcome Des saw - Des made a big deal about events having changed when he saved Charlie form a fatal arrow to the throat. I mean, Surely they'd have had enough time to leave station - even without scuba gear, they'd be able to swim up faster than they swam down. Maybe I've missed something?

Anyone else notice how different Walt looked? The actors voice had even broken since he was a cast regular.

OK I can finally read this thread and reply now that I watched the finale last night.

Wow! Lots of things I didn't expect to happen. Most everyone seems to have turned on Ben. Charlie dead. The Others get blown away at the beach. Jack & Kate in the future. Danielle and Alex reunite. Ben gets the piss beat out of him. Very cool ending.

Charlie's death was sad, but I just kept wondering why he didn't try climbing out the broken window hole and swimming to the surface. I thought about who might be in the coffin. It'd have to be someone without a lot of family/friends aside from the rest of the island crew. Maybe Locke or Sawyer, or maybe one of the Others like Ben or Richard.

The flash-forwards are going to be cool if they continue in the next season. I was wondering when they were going to run out of backstory to tell about the main characters. Now trying to figure out what they mean and if it has anything to do with Desmond's ability will be fun to watch unfold.

Seeing Walt again was kind of cool, and I expected something like that was going to happen to Locke. I imagined either Jacob himself coming to help him, or perhaps the monster, or some other vision of another person like Boone or Walt. I hope they get back to what happened with Walt and Michael soon too.

Had a dream about Lost last night. Locke and Jack were fighting about something gone horribly wrong, then Jakob came in the room and jumped ugly with them.

Lost is one of the best shows on tv and definitely got back to it's quality that it was lacking in the beginning of the season. Twill definitely be interesting to see where it goes from here.

I think Charlie didn't escape from the the water 'rushing in' as it would only be a matter of time before one of Des vision's would not be able to save him. This way, he would die with everyone thinking he was a hero (something which had a profound meaning to him when he confronted the mugger in his flashback) - and also that he thought everyone would be saved - inc Claire and Arron - if he did die this time around. If he hadn't died would his actions have someohow prevented everyone else from leaving?

Very Spock-like death for Charlie - the needs of many outweighed the needs of the one.

I thnk it was Sawyer in the coffin - no-one came to the funeral - probably because no-one knew his name? Would explain why Jack thought Kate may have gone to it too?

Very interesting and entertaining few hours of tv - if only more shows could muster up this quality...

Hard to say. He'd have no reason to continue using the 'Sawyer' name once he got back to the world. Also he seems to be on good terms with everyone at the moment. I actually got the impression that Kate was referring to him when she had to get back. Could be wrong tho.

^ 'tis a tough one - I thought she was referring to getting back to Sawyer too - though I couldn't come up with another character that no-one would attend the funeral of (maybe Sayeed as a long shot - though he'd have been buried in Iraq?)

Anyone on ideas on who was in the coffin?

I finally saw the finale yesterday evening. Pretty good stuff. I knew that Mikhail wasn't really one of the others, but now he clearly doesn't seem like he could ever be a benevolent philanthropist in disguise, so I guess that might kill my Alvar Hanso idea.

I'm thinking the coffin contained someone they knew on the island (because Jack thought that Kate would care) and that the person is the kind of person who would seem as if he or she would have loved ones who'd come to his or her funeral (to explain Jack's shock). Also, it seemed like the death of this person provoked Jack's feelings of regret over leaving the Island and multiplied his suicidal mood. Since Locke didn't want to leave the Island, the criteria would all point to him the most I guess.

I just have one problem, when the funeral guy asks Jack whether he is friend or family, did you guys hear him say "either" or "neither"? I have two friends who heard "neither," but even when I listen closely and try to hear "neither" I still hear "either." Both either and neither create problems in terms of guessing who was in the coffin, but I don't know.

Re: the coffin - It coulda been someone they both knew post island. Seems like Jack's been stewing over things for a bit of a while. They probably did spend time together at first, before he started falling apart.

My other thought was that maybe the island escapees were trying to keep a low profile and didn't attend the funeral as to not attract attention to themselves. That's the vibe I got when Jack asks Kate if she went and she says "why would I?" That could also be a reason why they met in such an isolated location. Maybe Jack is famous for being the "hero" and getting people off the island, but perhaps people like Kate and whoever else got off the island do not want to make themselves known. (Kate especially I guess, since she, you know, killed someone).

This is something I'd not considered 'till now. Good point. She probably doesn't want to wind up in the slammer, though I wouldn't mind Evangeline Lilly in a Women in Prison type movie

For now, my $$'s on Locke. Everyone would be pissed at him for trying to keep them there...

Could it have been Michael in the coffin? (Walt would pretty much have to be still on the island for him not to come to the funeral - yet I imagine no-one would be rushing to go to Michael's funeral after his actions...)

Well, less than a month from now we can enjoy a meager eight weeks of Lost. Sixteen episode season was already short enough, kind of annoying it gets cut off at eight. I had hoped there would have been some sort of resolution with the WGA strike long before now so we could at least look forward to the second half of the season sometime later in the year, but it isn't looking too good.
