I disagree. I don't think this says anything about the state of the country. To answer your question, I'm probably down to an hour a day, since all the seasons just ended

Next Fall it'll be back up to about 2 hours a day, though it's usually spread out over a few days. I have a DVR, so I don't necessarily sit down everynight and get glued to the set. I usually reserve most of my tv viewing for the weekend.

I think it depends more on what people watch. I don't watch reality tv unless it has some kind of educational content (Mythbusters!). Yeah, most people watch crap (American Idol, Survivor, Big Brother, etc, etc), but there is some fairly good programming on TV, like Discovery Channel and History Channel.
