Blah, blah, blah. Maybe you have a buggy extension. I've been using FireFox to view the site for 3 days straight and it hasn't brought me down. I'm on version 2.0.0.3.
The interactive front end is kind of cool. It's no worse than any other site that I've seen use it. The proprietary media format you speak of is available on every major platform that exists (Windows, OS X, Linux, and I think Solaris). Going this route won't cost them anything. The majority of their users probably use IE with the Flash plugin, which works just fine. It's not going to hurt their rankings either, at least not judging by this Google search:

It's almost like you're only cool around here if you hate any new Star Wars stuff that's not related to the OOT. I hate the PT as much as the next OT.com reader, but I think it's getting a little ridiculous.
