I was watching your new final battle clip and when red squadron are approaching the death star, there are inconsistencies between the background stars and when you look out the front windows looking at the death star.
forwards, the stars barely move because everyone is heading straight at the death star.
when we look back at the pilots, the stars are moving right to left diagonally quite a bit. so it creates a bit of inconsistency.
I had the stars moving in that fashion because i was originally going to have Death Star further around Yavin so they would have to be turning around the planet to reach it. But i just couldn't pull it off (did one last attempt after i posted the clip) so the stars in the clip move faster than they would do if they were heading straight. I've now redone the stars and they move hell of a lot slower now.

Adywan,
Just screened Star Wars last night to kinda sorta celebrate 30 years and I noticed that not only are the microphones supposed to be on the left side of the pilots' helmets, but the mic wire should also be on the left side. Any way you can further tweak the flipped Red leader shot to deal with this issue?

Thanks for spotting that one. It's been fixed and the wire is now on the correct side.

Great work, Ady, as per usual. Any thoughts on my earlier post concerning inserting Yavin in all of the pilots' rear windows?

Hey Adywan, I don't think anyone's asked this for a bit, so I will. It's the dreaded question, though, so if you choose not to answer, I understand.

How close are you, percentage-wise, to being finished?

This is just looking cooler and cooler.

Alright, Adywan, it's time for another crazy idea from SSWR! ;P

So the SE entrance to mos eisley works to some extent, right?
Well, there's been one shot that has bugged me for quite some time.
It's the shot of the droid smacking the floating droid, and the camera then follows the speeder to reveal the rest of the city.
This is not about the droid crap (thank you for removing it!).
It makes since that Lucas added this particular shot. It's a nice entrance to the city. It lets the audience know where they are.
But someone once pointed out to me that the camera move would not have been possible back in '77.
Well, maybe not impossible, but it certainly would not have been as smooth a tracking shot as the SE shot has made it.
That shot takes me out of the movie, because it's so fast and so precise!
And, then, of course, the CGI is pretty darn bad…

So...with that being said, here’s something I stumbled onto:
mosshotidea

Here’s what I did:
I reversed, flipped, and slowed down the shot.
I had originally planned to simply slow the footage. But I continued to play with it and this is what I came up with.
Maybe this is just me, but the overall staging and movement is much better.

Here are some obvious problems and possible solutions with this shot idea:
1. The speeder is backwards
Well, the original speeder would have to be painted out and then replaced. If you could find a shot of the speeder from the right angle it might work.
The speeder IS pretty far away...it might work. Maybe you could get tellen to make you a model of it…?

2. The smoke in the bg is reversed
Paint it out? Overlay it with new smoke elements?

Maybe this is too ridiculously hard to do. But, again, I felt I should throw it out there. Thanks for listening to me babble!

Well there has been no news on a "ULTIMO SAGA BOX SET" still. That really pisses me off. Oh well Adywan's version will still kick Lucas' ass

I hav no advice for U Ady. What ur doing goes way beyond my expectation. U ROK!!!

Adywan,

I would like to suggest that you do a commentary track for your version covering the changes you've made, the thoughts behind them, etc. I know I would listen to it.

It's funny. I realized that many of these posts are about getting this done while others suggest more work. Seems we can't make up our minds.
More ideas:

Since the last chasm bridge worked so well, could you consider the same treatment here:
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a117/Sluggomatic2000/DeathStar--Elevator.jpg

I don't know if you have been following the visual guides on Starwars.com, but they have a handful of bloopers they point out.
such as:
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a117/Sluggomatic2000/7.jpg
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a117/Sluggomatic2000/9.jpg

And honestly, this feature of the official site is about the most cheaply put together thing I've seen. A bunch of stills with white or green type on them. Even I could have done that.

SomethingStarWarsRelated, i have just viewed your clip and you idea is pretty good but would cause too many problems really. Not only would i have to have a new shot of the speeder but every moving element too because everyone would be walking backwards. Also it would make it look like they are leaving the city. So i'm leaving the entrance the way it is but i have taken out the "hitting the droid on the head" shot.

That would be a pretty cool idea. I guess i may attempt that. I could mix it with the 2004 commentary track and be alongside GL

Sluggo, i was going to redo the elevator matte and have it as a wider shot with a lot of activity below but i just could find the material to pull this off so i had to scrap it. I might give it another go later but at the moment its not looking like i'll be able to do anything with it....yet
I have been following the visual guides. I never realised until reading them that the the second shot we see of the rebel troopers was a flip shot. I've managed to fix the other flip shots but missed this one. Don't know how i'm going to fix this though because if i just flip it back then it will give the impression that they are running from a different direction. Damn. Looks like this error will have to stay.

Also its looking like that horrible model shot of the death stars surface when luke blasts at it will ahve to stay too. I've become totally stuck as to what to do here. I've tried using HDTV footage from Jedi for the surface and added lukes X-wing diving in whilst blasting away but it looks horrible and there aren't many close up shots of the surface that i could work with so i have given up with this for the time being.

Maybe redoing the laser blasts and explosion would make that scene more real looking? To me the X-Wing laser blasts are HUGE when compared with the scale of the buildings, and the explosion and fire is what looks fake.....

Everything is looking good as usual, Ady...

Just one thing to be careful of, and that's making the stars TOO bright. I see you pumped them up quite a bit on these latest shots, and while I agree it's nice to see the stars, in a few shots they look too bright...

As I'm sure you know, in reality we would never see stars in ANY of these shots, since the camera's apeture would be stopped down to expose for everything else in frame. Of course, this isn't reality and we want to see stars, but personally I've always opted for just enough brightness so you can see them but no more.

Well, thanks for checking it out, adywan. I'd thought the people in the background were to far away to tell, but...I just wish there was something that could be done with that shot...
Maybe you could create a new shot using elements from TPM?
Whatever you choose to do (something or nothing) will be fine. I just can't wait to see the finished product!

--Dang! There has to be somthing...Maybe adding the inside of Lukes cockpit would help?
--cbaka and vbangle have good suggestions as well...

--Sounds interesting...Since you're not using that shot, you wanna post it?

Hey ADY. This is really stupid, but I was wondering if it is possible to put alien heads on some rebels bodies, just so it doesn't look all human if you know wat I mean. I know it's stupid, but just tell me wat Ur thoughts R on it.

well jedilaw did do a death star tile greeble pack.

if you tile it far enough you could probably do a DS surface.

pack available from sci-fi meshes.com

Where the hell is the "30th Anniversary Box Set" with all the rumored changes. Oh yeah Adywan is doing that because George Lucas is too lazy to do It.

I know I sound like a broken record, but

THANK YOU ADYWAN

I also would'nt mind seeing this if its not too much trouble to post

I also think this is an interesting idea (although I see how it could be quite difficult to pull off), could be neat though.

Ady, Did you post a clip a while back of Vader vs. Obi with the final/completed versions of the lightsabers?

Adywan,

I did a bit of searching for Death Star Tile models that you may be able to use. If you do a search for "Death Star Greeble" you will see that there are a few out there. I'm sure that any of the creators would be honoured for you to use their meshes in this edit.

Over at scifi-meshes.com you can register and download a set of tiles created by JediLaw. You may also be able to find info on Greebling, I'm sure Tellan can help with 3d modeling advice.

I hope you can use these to create the look you want or at least find someone able to create the shot you are needing, it has to be an improvement over the existing model shot.

I would also like to see the first test shot you did out of curisosity if possible.

Good luck!

This may have been addressed, but I don't care to comb through 60-some pages of this thread to find out: Are you taking out Vader's red eyes? This always bothered me as an inconsistency with the following films.

The real headset (Racal/Amplivox RA-150 Minilite) worn under the helmet can be worn on either ear.
I think the important thing is that the microphone and wire are on the same side, and consistently on the same side in all of the character's shots. If it would be easier to flip other shots of the character, then I personally think that could be a better thing to do.

no wire would be much more better (like ROTS clone pilots headset )...yaeh i know that's a lot of work for adywan..just an idea keep in mind

one of the worst mistakes for me, has always been the lightsabers casting shadows and not really iluminating it's surroundings. Even in ROTS, the mistakes still ocurr. Do you think it would be too time consuming to actually remove every shadow?

I have quickly retouched a screenshot you posted early in this thread.

http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/586/bensaberhs1.jpg
http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/6859/bensaberhs1yp2.jpg

Iluminating the enviorement is the easiest thing, just some masking and quick painting and your done. Removing the shadow is easy but time consuming. It might also depent on each scene. Im sure I could have used some prior frames where there is no lightsaber shadow and blend that part into this frame. anyway, keep up the great work man! its looking fantastic!
