Your dream vehicles

Author
Time
Over the years, I've debated time and again which one vehicle from the Star Wars movies I would have if it were possible. My answer changes time and again. I thought it might be fun to make a thread about what our dream vehicles are, Star Wars included.

Here are some categories I've thought of:

Star Wars: Speeder bike or custom swoop
Star Trek: U.S.S. Defiant
Car, sensible family-type: Subaru Legacy, current design
Car, super: McLaren F1
Car, muscle: Cobra
Motorbike, retail: Something simple like a Yamaha Virago
Motorbike, custom: one I've designed based on a Model A pickup truck
Motorbike, fantasy: Tron lightbike
SUV-type: Range Rover

Ok, that's enough for now. Feel free to add as many categories as you'd like.

SW: A cool land speeder. Like that white one that was dragging main street in Mos Eisley
Trek: I suppose I'd just want a transporter. Who would need a vehicle with one of those? I've always liked the Enterprise B

As a matter of fact, I am a Cadillac fanatic, I own a black 1958 Coupe.

As far as the modern concepts, I'm not crazy about them at all. They are too sporty to me, they try to imitate Corvettes almost, I like big luxury cars. I wished Cadillac would do some retro cars and bring some of their best designs from the 50's to now, that would be great.

Oh yeah - back when cars had style. Long before they all morphed into the "everypod" that they've become. I understand the need for aerodynamics, drag coefficients, fuel economy, etc - but along with those things, the car companies also moved into an area where they tried to make the cars appeal to as many buyers as possible. They did that by taking away any strong lines or styling cues. We're left with nothing but Accords, Fusions, and Impalas. There's been a slight - slight - move away from that in recent years, but really only with the higher end cars.

I kinda dig the new Chrysler 300s. They have a sort of comic book feel to them. Thick body with a throwback to the 50s chopped roof look. Something a cop would get out of and yell up to a building - "come out with your hands up, Lefty, we've got you surrounded".

*sorry, back to dream vehicles*

I'll work up a list soon.

Yes, they certainly could. Look how well the retro Fords have done in recent years.

I really wish the Ford 49 had made it to production. But at least there are lots of images of one of the classiest, nicest concepts I've ever seen:

I actually saw one of these Corvette mods yesterday. It drove by this bbq I was at. I forgot all about this girl I was flirting with. I just kept staring down the road while she walked off.

For the 50th Anniversary, this southern Cal company (iirc) modded some 2003's with 1953 styling. Man, it was a beautiful thing.

I've seen that Corvette, too. Not for real, though, just in my Car and Driver calendar. Looks a little odd stretched out so much at the front, but overall, I think it's a great idea.

Oh, and I almost seriously made an offer on a Metropolitan last year. (just like this one) Does your love of Metropolitans have anything to do with being a "Weird Al" fan? That's who I think of whenever I see one!

That would be a De Tomaso Mangusta, probably a 1968 model.

Ah, thanks. An Italian car? I must love Italian cars. Is it a rather well known car or do you just know a lot about cars ferris?

Yes, but wouldn't it be even more fun if you could fuck her in the backseat of you dream vehicle?

I've been going to car shows ever since I could crawl. I know quite a bit about them. Those Mangusta's are rare and are seeing a resurgence in popularity the last few years.
