I think MUSE LDs are (were?) 1125 lines. So, about double NTSC's 525 lines. Keep in mind some of those lines are not meant to be seen (just like only about 483 lines of NTSC contain picture info). I'll betcha Wikipedia can tell you all about it.

Yup, it can: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiple_sub-nyquist_sampling_Encoding_system

I don't believe there is (was?) any upscaling available from any LD player, including the X0. That's a bit much to expect of a fundamentally analogue medium! Especially at a time when almost nobody (except a handful of Japanese) had HDTVs.

Correct, no ld player did upscaling or progressive scan. They all put out a 480i image. Players like the X0 and X9 were just optimized for LD playback. MUSE lasers were true high def. I think 1125 lines or so is correct. I've heard that the quality varied by title. Some titles supposedly look awesome, such as the scenary type discs. Others were not that great. Plus you still had to have an outboard MUSE decoder to "decrypt" the MUSE signal. My X9 will play MUSE discs, but the selection of titles I would have purchased was very small and not worth the costs. MUSE discs are still quite expensive.

There is an X0 player on eBay. I posted the details here in the off topic forum.

vbangle, where's your .sig from?

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

It was in the thread for RemixerBoss's fanedit "project" for ROTJ.

I'm just glad his fan edit project is over. Making the movies match the EU infuriates me. Rotten EU....

What exactly were MUSE laserdiscs? Did they have anything to do with Japanese vhs releases using a Hi-vision transfer?
On another note, I was looking through the official screenshots page and noticed something with shot 15, the wide shot of the binary sunset. In the 2004 SE you can see faint clouds just below the 2 suns but they are not visible in any other transfer posted. I was thinking this might have been an SE alteration but it was not mentioned on the official star wars site list of changes. So do you think it was always there and only the dvd revealed it or just another really minor change?

Since the XØ-team apparently has reference material to color correct I was wondering if you can tell me if the stars in the starfields of ROTJ are supposed to be light blue. ROTJ of the GOUT seems kind of blue to me.

The starfield during the crawl especially. But also during a lot of other shots.

Mostly the bigger stars are white with a blue glow. Often the smaller stars are blue.

This is going to sound a little insincere no matter what I say.....but.....

Zion, how is Laserman doing? Have you talked with him lately? I know he's had health issues that were or still are pretty serious.....

For a while now, when I come to this site I find myself thinking about him.....not only is he pivotal for the X0 project, but I have always enjoyed reading his posts.....what a smart intelligent gentleman.....

If you happen to hear from him please let him know that he is in our thoughts...wish him well.......

wow....

well if you think another passing of the hat would cheer him up, please make it known....

2 weeks in a hospital for me would not be a pleasant experience.....I hate hospitals....

Following Arnie d. here: Jedi has always had major color issues ranging from oversaturation to muddy shadow detail. I think it may have something to do with the switch to JDC-Scope, since Temple of Doom displays similar characteristics. 'Course, that begs the question (all over again) of what an 'accurate' representation should look like...
Author
Time
But if it was shot in JDC-Scope the problems should have been visible in theater as well, shouldn't they?

How can you have bright white stars for two films and then change to blue?

I guess Endor was in a completely different part of the galaxy from Tatooine, Alderaan, Yavin, Hoth, Dagobah, Bespin, etc.

When I watch any of the GOUT dvds on my computer the stars look blue, but if I watch them on my t.v. the stars do not look blue.

That's weird, but don't the ROTJ stars look more blue?
