Couldn't agree more. Case in point, Lucas rewrote Star Wars lore for the PT which had originally been accepted as cannon prior to the PT.

From the book A GUIDE TO THE STAR WARS UNIVERSE, SECOND EDITION (copyright 1994): A solid black Rebel Insignia next to the entry for "Jedi Master" denotes that the information was drawn from an original Lucasfilm source such as the films, the radio dramas, or the original novelizations. The entry reads:

"The most powerful Jedi Knights eventually evolve into Jedi Masters. Jedi Masters are teachers and miracle-workers of extreme power and ability. Jedi Masters have moved beyond the need for weapons such as lightsabers, preferring to depend solely on the Force to give them strength[my emphasis]. The Jedi Master Yoda trained Luke Skywalker after the death of Obi-Wan Kenobi. [ESB]"

"[ESB]" denotes that the sources for this info are the film EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and its novelization.

I've looked in an updated edition of this book, and the entry has been changed to eliminate this idea from Star Wars history.

Alright. Enough preaching to the choir.
