***LeoneNut Edits***

Author
Time
Now having done 8 edits and more planned, I thought I better start a thread of my own to keep track of them.

Previous edits can be found here:
Sergio Leone Preservations
Ridley Scott's Legend Extended

Have been recently finishing edits of two of my favourite films:

Michael Mann's Manhunter - Extended Edit
There exists at least four different versions of this film:
(1) Original Theatrical Cut - Contains some unique scenes and the only version with the infamous "blow the sick fuck out of his socks" speech
(2) Director's Cut - Released by Anchor Bay in 2001 in VHS quality, has many extra scenes and a unique scene with Will Graham talking to Dr Chilton
(3) Restored Director's Cut - A better version of the above but without the Dr Chilton scene
(4) Hybrid Cut - Anchor Bay mistakenly released this as a Theatrical Cut, a sort of hybrid of the Theatrical Cut and the Director's Cut, but also contains some unique extra and extended shots

Basically I've created a version with every scene and shot from all four versions, selecting the best looking source where appropriate.
Specs:
- Anamorphic 2.35:1 NTSC
- Dolby Digital 5.1
- Runtime: 131 minutes
- Optional Subtitles explaining the various different versions

Sam Peckinpah's Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid - Extended Version
Wasn't happy when this came out last year in a new version, though luckily the 1988 Preview version was included.
I have restored two extra scenes and some new shots found in the 2005 edit, and added them to the 1988 Preview version to make a more fulfilling movie.
Scenes restored to the film include Garrett visiting his wife, Garrett interrogating the whore Ruthie Lee. Extra shots when Billy goes to an outhouse and the raft scene with Garrett.
The 2005 version re-ordered parts of the film, and I have kept the editing as it was in the 1988 version (the one actually overseen by Peckinpah himself).
Specs:
- Anamorphic 2.35:1 NTSC
- Dolby Digital 1.0 (Original Mono)
- Runtime: 127 minutes

19 Oct 2007:
Frank Miller's Sin City - Recut Extended Unrated Theatrical Cut
Have taken the extended short stories and recut them in the same order as the theatrical cut to make a more fulfilling version
Notes: The final scene of That Yellow Bastard Part 1 is still Hartigan saying "fair trade" before cutting to the next story. The extended scene of the ambulances taking Hartigan are at the beginning of Part 2.

Specs:
- Anamorphic 1.85:1 NTSC
- Dolby Digital 5.1
- Runtime: 131 minutes
- Single Layer

1 Nov 2007:
Alien - The Hybrid Cut
Extends the Theatrical Cut with all of the scenes from the Director's Cut, except unecessary shots of the Alien watching Brett and the Alien smacking Jones cage.
Restores other footage:
- an extended scene of Parker and Brett working while Ripley radios them
- a scene of Ash checking out x-rays of Kane before the crew members come back
- a scene of Ripley asking Lambert if she slept with Ash
The cocoon scene has been moved to before Ripley sets off the self-destruct sequence where it really belongs
Specs:
- Anamorphic 2.35:1 NTSC
- Dolby Digital 5.1
- Runtime: 126 minutes

Aliens - The Hybrid Cut
This is the simplest cut of the lot, using the Special Edition version simply removes scenes of the colonists and Newt's family discovering the Space Jockey's ship. I actually like all the extended scenes in this version but dislike the whole Newt's family scene (I used to have to skip it every time).
I've kept the first outdoor shots of "Hadley's Hope" however as it gives a preview of the "shake and bake" colony.
Specs:
- Anamorphic 1.85:1 NTSC
- Dolby Digital 5.1
- Runtime: 150 minutes

Alien3 - The Hybrid Cut
This is the most complex edit I did. The basic idea was to take the Assembly Cut and change the cow birth scenes into the dog birth scenes from the Theatrical Cut. And also restore the Alien Queen bursting out of Ripley in the finale.
Changes include (using the Assembly Cut as my base):
- Ripley is still rescued by Clemens, and kept shots of the prisoners heading out to the EEV with cows
- removed Andrews typing the details of the crash, and the alternative footage of the prisoners opening up the EEV and seeing what's inside
- restores Theatrical Cut footage of the same scene, but removes them finding Ripley in the EEV
- restores the dog barking at the facehugger
- kept the scene of one prisoner and Murphy discussing the dead cow (died innocently in this edit), I liked the macho talk about Ripley so left it in. It ends before the facehugger skin is discovered. This scene was moved from where it is in the Assembly edit
- Restored the Theatrical Cut scene of Murphy discovering his wounded dog
- Theatrical Cut footage of the dog birth scenes replacing the cow birth scenes
- Restored the tune Murphy sings in the Theatrical Cut and calling for his dog, before he dies
- Restores scene of David (Pete Postlethwaite) getting confused as to what to do "This was HER idea".
- Adds back shot of 85 wiping steam from the mirror while he waits for the rescue team
- Replaces Ripley's demise with the Theatrical Cut version of the Queen bursting out of her
Specs:
- Anamorphic 2.35:1 NTSC
- Dolby Digital 5.1
- Runtime: 147 minutes

================================================
12 Nov 2007:
Re-Animator: Re-Animated
Have seamlessy added the extra R-rated scenes back to the Unrated version of the movie. Many of which were extra character development scenes left on the cutting room floor, while the gore of the Unrated version was cut out. Unrated version is 86 mins and the R-rated version 95 minutes. This edit runs a total of 108 minutes, adding 22 minutes to the unrated cut. Includes the deleted dream sequence as an after credits bonus.

Specs:
- Anamorphic 1.85:1 NTSC
- Dolby Digital 2.0 (original mono track)
- 108 minutes

================================================
20 Nov 2007:
Conan the Destroyer: Serious Edition
This an attempt to make Conan the Destroyer (1984) a more serious movie. Conan the Barbarian (1982) was probably one of the finest fantasy films ever made. The sequel wasn't unfortunately, it was toned down to get a PG rating, and added too much humour in the process. Annoyingly Conan was given not just one sidekick, but three of them, and each has cringeworthy one-liners or silly moments. Also a whiny girl was added into the mix, and Conan is made more of an idiot.
What I have done is reduce the humour and jokes to the bare minimum. Removed much of the silly moments with Conan and deleted as much of the naive princess as possible. Other changes include removing a scene explaining the bad guys motives too early, an awful fireside drunk scene and the ending is much improved ending on a more sombre note. When the monster dies at the end, Conan now kills it before it collapses, making him seem more heroic. Altogether 18 minutes have been removed.

Specs:
- Anamorphic 2.35:1 PAL
- Dolby Digital 5.1
- 79 minutes
- Deleted footage extra

Leone, did you get a chance to see the rare trailer for Legend. I posted a link in the Legend thread. The person who uploaded it to youtube said it was on a UK rental tape (I would think a Fox movie). I think it's the best trailer/preview for the movie.
